There is a short story to this car. I heard of a guy Adam who lives a little out of town who just got into 33/34 Fords. He has a pretty rough 1934 Ford 5W and an ever rougher 34 3W. The 5W used to be a circle track car, then turned into a rat rod. He wanted to make the 5W more of a traditional hot rod. Sounds cool to me! I talk to him a little and we kinnd get to know each other over the past few months. He called me a little while ago saying he picked up a 1933 Fordor sedan for parts. No biggie, I told him I'd drive out and see it. Well, things happen and it takes me a while to get out there. His plan was to cut this car apart, use the cowl and floors for his 5W, along with a lot of other things. My Dad wants to go with me, and anyone that knows my Dad knows he LOVES orriginal cars.
We get to the shop and walk in, heres this ORRIGINAL PAINT 33 fordor. Guy starts telling us how he plans on cutting the car up and so forth. There was terror in my Dads eyes as he blurts out "You can't cut this car up, I'll buy it!!!". We BS a little more and pretty soon were leaving. My ol man was frantic. I told Adam to think about my Dads offer, said he could buy all the parts he needs for the kind of money my Dad offered. My Dad was a nervous wreck after that. He has a 33 fordor basket case he's working on, and just fell in love with this thing.
I work on Adam for a week, and he finally says if I could find a nice 34 coupe thats reasonably priced he would work a deal. I racked my brain all day at work, and remembered a guy who had a nice 34 Cabrolet for sale. I call that guy (Bob) and see if he still has it. He does, tells me a price and I arrange for Adam and I to see it. Adam likes the Cabrolet idea. Adam and Bob set up a deal, then Adam and my Dad set up a deal, and everyones world still turns. I just got back from helping my Dad load this thing up. It is a super gennie ol Ford

She's all orriginal, someone took the roof insert and upholstry out, and also installed new side glass. Engine turns over, ignition swtich works, all doors/windows open/shut nice. My Dad is stoked. It is suppost to be a very early 33, even has a 32 heavy axle under it. Years ago someone stole the hood and grill off of it, thats why it has a different color hood. ZERO rust!

I told my Dad on the way home this car owed him it's life, as my Dad litteraly saved this car from being destroyed:D

The best part is Adam and my Dad and I have really become good friends over this whole week long deal! The people in this hobby make it what it is- FUN!
    Enjoy the pics!!

Great story Chris, that car is cherry. What are the plans for the car? Keep the old paint, get running and original interior?

    A 33 Standard Fordor Sedan!
That's the kind of original car folks dream about!
Even has an original heavy-duty air cleaner for dusty climates.
Is the original locking spare hubcap and strap hiding under the back seat?

Thanks to your Dad for saving that from ratrodhell so the real world can enjoy and appreciate it.

Yeah- standard would make it a rare car! No locking cap hiding anywere, but did come wih a nice greayhound rad cap in the glove box (glove box still in good shape)

Chopped50ford- his plans are to get it running/driving, tires, brakes, interior, make it safe and enjoy it. Anyone that knows my Dad and I know we LOVE orriginal paint cars. He is still building a hot rod out of his other 33 fordor (chopped and highboy), so this car will remain pretty stock.

Damn, you guys and your 33/34 Fords! Quit hoarding all the PNW stock and leave something for me when I return!

    BTW, I'm looking for a 5W coupe seat ;)

Great save. And hats off to the previous owner for seeing that your Dad buying it was a far better choice than cutting it up.

What's the story on the two Mustangs??? PM me if they are available.

    Chris,

That is a great story and a great car. Tell us about the breather on the fuel pump stand. I have never seen that arrangement before.

I don't know...I think it was an extention so it was easier to put oil in it. May be home made or early aftermarket?

Very nice super-solid car.:) I wonder about it being a "very early" one, however, because it has skirted front fenders. There was a very interesting article in the Early Ford V8 club magazine a couple of months ago about the early cars with unskirted fenders. Curiously, most of them seem to have been delivered in the Pacific Northwest when new. Might be an interesting read for you and your Dad if you haven't already seen it.

I saw that article, very neat! The guy we got it from said he ran the numbers and found it to be low. Also has that 32 axle under it...makes me wonder if it was orriginal or swapped in sometime later. Car is suppost to be from Canada.

I have to wonder how useful this would have been as a parts car for a coupe anyway. Are the floors even the same? How much of it would he have been able to use? A few bits here and there, but overall it sounds like a lot of that car would have gone to waste as a parts car.

Nice save. I know alot of guys think fordors are only good for parts, but I think all 32-4 fordors deserve to live. Glad your Dad feels the same. My '33 fordor is a piece of junk compared to the one you just got, but I'm still gonna build it.

THANK YOU for saving it. Who in their right mind would cut up a '33-4 THAT nice for ANY reason?

That's what took the most convicing. His plan was to cut this car right above the front door and graft the coupe rear section to it, making a complete 33 coupe. BUT, I told him a lot of it would not work, or at least no that easily. Plus he was not going to use the engine, tranny, brakes, front end other than the wishbone...so he would have cut this car up for the cowl, hood, grill, floor and front fenders/running boards. I can see were the guy was coming from, he had a good plan and if the car was more of a POS then I'd say gor for it...but this car deserves more than that. It was hard to convince him that half of the car would be tossed.

Excellent find! Your dad is surely a lucky man (got you for a son, too:D)

Tell him to build it and build it right, that old boy is just screaming to be rodded, a little, but not too much. Keep us posted with his progress, I for one would look forward to that.:D
