All my preaching about old cars is working, shes 17 she wants 49 to 54 ford or chevy. For now she just wants to build dependable transportation shes also looking for 80s caprice or crown vic for the drivetrain. I told her that I would post this for her, we'll get her on the hamb soon enough. Shes been wrenching with me since she was about two. do any of you guys have any of these cars close to albuquerque? Thanks Bill

That is GREAT news Bill. I've got a local buddy here with a ton of '49-'51 Ford parts. Let us know what she chooses to build and what parts she needs. I'm sure I can sweet talk my buddy outta some stuff for a good cause... and a new custom chick on the scene is a really good cause.

well if she knows how to wrench why does she need a dependable car?

really if you get a shoebox with drivetrain in it a good rebuild and a decent carb should be all you need to make it dependable.

my fairlane only took a carb rebuild and a rebuilt head to get it going....been 30K no with little problems. (parts store starters keep going out)

the stock carb leaked but I swapped on a newer 1bbl I picked up and since then it has been trouble free....starts much easier now too.

Thats not what I mean, Two years ago I went to paso from Albuquerque, then to Bradenton Fl. When I got to florida I changed the oil. I didnt even have to open the hood in 3600 miles, thats what I mean by dependable. You've got to build them right to make them that way.

Hudson's are nice alternatives to a ferd or chebby. I might be biased though.
