41Hemi, glad 345DeS tipped you on a source for NEW rubber. Also, here's a tip from RustyNewYorker. He's an Old School HAMBer with many years under his belt working on cars. Maybe this comment will help. Great Thread, too, so maybe you can pick up more helpful ideas. Thread title: "Replacing windshield and door glass??"

RustyNewYorker wrote: "You don't have to have new rubber, if the old is flexible and not dryrotted stiff or crumbly. If it's a little stiff you can use some soapy water to lubricate things to make it slide where it needs to. I don't think I even used that when I put the rear window in my Fleetline, which I just kind of pushed out of a '50 Pontiac carcass in the junkyard."

Jimi adds: The only thing I would add is that WHILE the windshield and rear screens and their rubber are OUT is a great time to repair any rust that may have been causing a leak. Very hard to stop a leak when glasses & rubber are in. Since you have to have them out anyhow (because of the vandals), might as well make use of the opportunity to look hard for any rust bubbles. If you re-install these glasses and rubber without eradicating any existing rust, it'll probably just leak again. So, make lemonade out of lemons!

this happened just before 11-17-09..and nothing has been done about it to date?
    almost an entire month?

man i would be putting that police force and its detectives to shame..should have gotten the local paper involved..or sat at a detectives desk 3 times a week..talk about an apathetic police force(and pathetic too)..what a shame..you got fucked by some shit head kids just to have the local police department rub your nose in it..sad

sorry about your damage..if I had a copy of that tape, i think i'd take few days off work to shame the cops into doing their job
no lesson for those punks will surely bring more work for those lazy cops later down the road

Thank you 345, Jimi, and FormerFueler! I've sent an email off to Gary Goers and I also talked to Peter at Antique Dodge. Seems there are 2 different rear weatherstrips so I'll need to check that when I go to work tomorrow. The original rubber is cracked and weathered.....it's in a million little pieces:eek: Wish we COULD use the original. I'll be putting the vent glass and side glass in this coming weekend. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter!! Thanks to all:D Al

  13. I kinda dig it. ^^
Mates lets see if we can get this sweet 'more- door Mopar Superstar' back in shape.
2c- These shennanigans are an insult to the sacrifices of the fine founding fathers of Maryland. The families (?) ought to be made to read thier constitution then go find the glass & install it. O 'Course that'd mean workin' the HAMB !

I know that you have had offers for parts already, but thought that I'd let you know that I have a 55 desoto 4 door car and if you still need something that you haven't already found hit me up. If it swaps over and you need it let me know. All the glass is there. Glad to help out if I can.

My Experience: push, hard, on the police/courts etc. I had this happen to a'61 Econoline. It took 14 months for a judge to finally hear the suit. The investigating officer was sent to Iraq. Since he could not appear, the judge tossed the case. Too bad was all he said! So push for rapid prosecution! And, good luck!

I read stuff like this and Hope I'm raising my kids right so they don't do crap like this. Completely uncalled for. My kids ever mess up like this and they'll be paying restitution to dad also. I have no patience for vandalism. At least steal it - don't just destroy it.

Sorry about the car, but sounds like it's getting back to it's former glory.

If I could ID the young lads, I think I would wait until they bought there first car and return the favor. An automatic center punch is suppose to do wonders to glass. At least that's what I hear anyway. If you can't ID them I guess there isn't much you can do except concentrate on getting your ride fixed. Seems like you've got a handle on that thanks to this site.

Years ago, one of my cars was vandalized by a 16 year old neighborhood punk. Caught him, proved it, cops slapped him on the wrist. A few months later, the kid somehow got a broken leg. To my knowledge, he's been in no further trouble. A kid that does that is a worthless piece of shit, and deserves to be treated like one.

Amen, brother. If we handled more stuff like this, we'd have a lot less little shitbags in our society.

When and if the cops catch these teen or
pre-teenage bastards who did this - and
assuming they end up in court and are
found guilty, what with the so-called
"justice" system being what it is today, it's
unlikely that a judge will actually order
    restitution. However, that being said,
whatever penalty is levied against them in
a criminal or juvenile court doesn't prevent
you from going after compensation by
suing the kids via their parents or legal
guardians. If there is a conviction in a criminal
or juvenile court, thus proving that the kids
in question did the vandalism, then a victory
in a civil action against the parents or
guardians for the actions of their sweet
darling little monsters should be a slam-dunk.

I was hoping early on that this would not be the case. It is really disappointing to hear that this is happening. I expect this in my ghetto town, but not in a "nice" town (I am 4 months of inactivity into my case, 15 witnesses+video tape, name, address, DL number and SSN of the assailant, $45k damage, etc).

Keep calling. Eventually they will want to shut you up. Call the district attorney for whatever municipality covers where the crime happened, inform them, and call back often. Get the name of each person you call and write it down. Keep a good paper trail.

If the area is small enough to "care" inform the news media. Some still have some sort of advocacy department. It might work for you. Here, they don't even cover murder.

    Do not give up!

Hopefully these kids are caught and made to be responsible for their actions. There seems to be no consequences for things like this anymore. These kids need to know that there are consequences for whatever they do, they will find this out at some point in their lives, better now than when it means a failed marriage or job. It does seem that many parents overprotect their children in these situations thinking that that is good parenting. Children must klnow that there are consequences for their actions; they do this, then this is going to happen. Groing up in the 60's I knew that if i got caught doing someng wrong I was going to pay for it...forget cops, my Dad would see to it that I understood I did something unaceptable. I got my ass beat a few times, but I also stopped many time before I did something stupid because I knew that if my Dad found out he just might bury me like he had threatened..I didn't really beleive him, but I did't want to find out. It might a very good thing for these kids if they get caught and learn something.

Sucks Man now 2 DeSoto threads that have vandals or f@%ken punks screwing with someones ride. If you guys remember my 48' DeSoto was keyed to Sh!t just about 7 months ago. Search (Desoto keyed WTF) to see pics of mine. I have been where you are full of hate and wanting revenge but i came to terms that Karma will get them. Sometimes all you can do is roll up your sleeve's and start wrenching. Thats what we do best anyways.
