I mocked up the Flathead to the final look. Offy Heads, Eddie Meyer intake, PowerGen Alternator and I swapped out the Water Pumps. The Intake had to be relieved a little to accomodate the Powergen bracket.

I plan on modifying the Spark Lead tubes to suit the 8BA distributor. I'll cut the right one & re-weld it to point up at the Dizzy and also cut & re-weld the left one so it passes under the Alternator. I haven't seen this done before. If anyone has any pics, I'd like to see them.

Some more work on the Body.....

The Windshield has been mounted and swings nicely.

The insertion of the bar that is supporting the Windshield hinges has now meant I can't run the Wiper Motors I had purchased. So I now need to run one of those Cable Driven Remote Wiper motors. Another tiny hitch.

The Dash section has been steeled and now awaits the insertion of the Cowel Vent.

Some further progress on the Body.....

The Hinges have been sourced. I decided on Brass Hinges, as I may leave them exposed. The Hinge fitting has started. A single Rod is used for alignment and to ensure No binding

The Trunk Support Arm I purchased from MACS seemed quite light on. There were doubts it could support the Trunk lid once the steelout was done. A new 3mm Support Arm was Laser cut and it was extended to allow for greater opening of the lid.

The Steel Floor straps were welded in position and then laminated to the floor. The Seat support steelout, incorporating the centre Safety Belt anchor points were also fabricated, fitted and laminated to the floor.

Not quite. This is the supposedly reconditioned engine I purchased back on page 17 of this Thread.

The Engine is not quite as it was advertised, quite a few lies by the seller.

I disassembled the Bottom end and found that the bearings were second hand, the Crank had not been linished as advertised. I'm also not convinced it was Balanced. There was also No Rod for the manual Fuel Pump connecting to the Cam.

The Con-Rod bearings were new, but had already developed markings from simply hand cranking.

I'm resigned to rebuilding the Bottom end for peace of mind. More to come on this.

Unfortunate news on the engine JT.
Rare to find a good rebuilt engine for sale..
and even rarer to find one honestly described!
Lotta work in that body! look forward to seeing it.

  19. Sorry to hear about the motor too, but on the bright side, at least you looked and once rebuilt, you'll have peace of mind when you finish the car and drive it.

Here are some pics of the Big End Bearings. You can clearly see the Heat marks from a well worn in bearing and you can see how the Crank has not been linished.

This one is my favourite..... Look at the chunk of metal that is missing from the top left corner of the bearing. What Dickheads can put such a motor together and call it rebuilt.

And Here are some pics of the Conrod bearings and Crank. Again you can see there is no linishing on the Crank and some troubling marks on the bearings from just Hand Cranking this motor. In the pic below you can also see the bottom end of the Cylinder Sleve. That should be no issue if done right. This motor has two sleves in total.

The Pistons and Rings all looked OK. The Rings released good tension when I took them out of the sleeve. They Floated well on the Gudgeon Pin (No Binding) and the Ring gaps were offset against each other.

I may end up using the Crank I pulled out of the other motor, as I'd already fitted the Spigot Bearing to match my Gearbox. That will all be determined once I check both Cranks out properly.

Im looking into your future....I see a full set of bearings, a crank grind to the next undersize, and a very thorough crank cleaning session! oh and a balance.
Actually, I would pull the whole engine right down now.bet the cam bearings are toast too. you got gipped.
I bet the valve seats are shitfully done too..

    Basically its full rebuild time.

    Boo.

Yeah Ben, It will definitely be torn down fully, Hot Tanked and then everything checked out properly. No shortcuts. The last thing I need is to have a mechanical failure, after waiting so long to get her on the road.

  24. Very wise choice Oz. It sucks you got ripped. But do it right now and the end result will be that bit much better. Care to name and shame so others don't have similar issues.

Wow, what a thread, what a car! My hat's off to your builder, Lowsquire. Super job. And looks like your body people and steeler are doing top jobs! Too bad on the engine, no doubt. Put the guy's name up on here to warn any others of his shortcomings! Best to you Oz. perley

I have enough evidence to present back to the Engine Builder and offer him a right of reply. I don't expect any remorse, so I'll then name & shame him so no other Hambers get scammed by him.
