Actually- the smell of an old car- you know the one that you can only get from something that has been sitting, and you rescue it after a long slumber. Mohair interiors, old faint of burnt oils, and the stories they have hidden waiting to tell you.......All the wise ***es can fart in a jar, and put it on your work bench for your morning stare at my "****" session........

Just about any NOS body part, makes you wonder how it stayed unused for over a 100 years in some cases.

    Hello,
From the time I was a driving, licensed, teenager, I stared at this stock 1940 Ford dash from 1960 to 65. So many miles of coastal cruising road trips in this Flathead powered Sedan Delivery and it functioned in an outstanding way. Then from the time we were 20 somethings, another similar color 40 Ford dash was in our 327 powered Sedan Delivery. And, it, too, eventually put on a zillion miles to sell it after owning it for 5 years.

    upload_2022-11-3_4-5-12.png
I had the only 40 Ford Sedan Delivery in our area of So Cal as teenagers. Then years later, when my wife and I bought the 327 powered 40 Ford Sedan Delivery project, it was in our garage getting the once, twice, three times the make over and repairs. Once the repairs were finished, it took us for many fabulous road trips, staring at that cool dash. We were lucky, within several blocks of the Westside of Long Beach house where we grew up was a Ford Parts Obsolete store. They had almost every item someone could want for a 40 Ford. So, any replacement parts were not a problem.

We even did not have an AM/FM radio in the 327 powered Sedan Delivery. We listened to a tape player mounted behind our bucket seats. The dash was cool enough and we enjoyed looking at it daily, during our time on those long road trip.

But, within a month or so into our 327 SBC sedan delivery project , we switched over to a 4 spoke Moon steering wheel, as the look was to feel like driving a race car, while cruising around. YRMV

Or a windshield I kind of like a car with a windshield too.

@Bandit Billy this one will give you a chuckle. a 140 MPH speedo in a '57 Ford. I lived in a small town in kansas once and the local cop car was an actual police special. It had a 140 mile speedo, aint no way in the devil that that old Ford sedan ever pegged it. I wish I had it though. LOL

My favorite part of a car is the subtle indicators they give us when they're sick.

For my cars it's usually factory steering wheels. Sometimes the correct one for that car, but often it can be a later year wheel than the car had. Rodders often installed steering wheels from later cars, and I like that if it's the right wheel look.
I used the original banjo wheel on my Austin g***er, as it was just cool.

On my '39 Chevy g***er I used a '52 Chevy wheel because it had more chrome, and was still 18" to handle manual steering.

It took a while to figure out that my Model A had "factory AC". I was about to cut some kind of vent in the cowl when one of my good friends (much smarter than I) told me that when the windshield is out to the notch in the brackets, there is a metal strip attached to the WS frame that directs most of the incoming air down, and a little up. You can see it in the photo. Who'd a thunk it !!! Model A AC1.jpg

  24. Not original but, aftermarket Bullnose that smooths 49 and 50 Ford hoods. A few bucks and you have a custom car.

The dash in my 34 ford coupe. I hated the look of the 33-34 ford dashes so I had my buddy, Jimmy graft a 34 chevy standard dash into the ford dash rail. Still bolts up same as stock ford but not ugly. Used a Champion insert installed upside down with cl***ic Moon gauges. 34dashpainted1.jpg

The suspension and the exhaust especially when there are nice looking headers that blend into the singlepipes.
There used to be a company called Dougl*** they made the nicest headers with a mandril exhaust to go with them along with the mufflers. They made the whole deal and it was all top notch. The Gl*** Packs they sold sounded like a dream. A deep tone with a very light crackle, they were the best.
