Thanks Jim As always I enjoy having dad help out. I'm going to take the 31 up to his house in NC later this summer and show his friends that he can also do work on cars. Maybe we will find some of those hiddin cars or trucks that have been sitting in a barn for the past 30 or so years and get them back up and rolling. He knows just about every body in town.
Hey Carl most of work hard to get the wood out of our old Chevy's and you're putting it back in! What nice work your dad does! My dad is a retired sheet metal worker so he helps me when it's time to bend some metal. It's great you and your dad got to do this. Looks better than the original wood GM put in it. Tom
Awesome car don't know how I haven't seen this thread before. I'm building a 32 chevy coupe myself, but havent gotten as far as you. Sweet build sorry about your luck. Glad to see you're out and enjoying it though!
"You better have your wood screws. I'm gonna blow your doors off." How can you remember every line from that movie?
Uh....I guess some of the things that I studied in college stuck Right along with the principle of the moment of inertia.
Screwed and glued. This ripping rod will be up for the challenge. You better be tighten up your wood there bud. :
I think Carl was taking pictures from his inflatable raft, hoping that guy doesn't light those engines off
What everrrrrr Tony, You just wish you could see that from out your garage. It will be there again this weekend and you land lovers will be misssing it. My new thinking place kicks ***!! You have been invited so you coming?
WHAT....not a hot rod in sight!?!? Your two best days with a boat...the day you get it and the day you get rid of it!! What happened to the "...'32 Chevy build"? Get any 'details' worked out yet?
Gotta live man, it is summer you know. Still working on some details. I'm going to get back on the 31 in a few days. As you know there is always something to do and the work never ends. Just got motor on the brain rt now trying to see what road to take. I talked to the bank tonight (The Wife) and I got the go ahead to get things going so that is a big plus. Eases the pain I will say.
I would say today that its been an interesting weekend. Friday after noon Josh picked up a 454 BBC and we took it over to Brads and put it in his 30 model A 4 door sedan. We had to flip the fire wall around and cut the tank down but in just a few hrs things came together. Here is Brads link to his build. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=670676&page=10 Also on Friday while cruising Josh around while his truck was being fixed we got to talking about me needing a motor and the 283 he had in his digger came up. Man a blower would be cool. Better sleep on this one. Saturday the deal went down and here we go again. So now I got this cool 283 with a Don Hampton 471 Blower. Now that's taken it up a few notches on the cool factor I will say. I seam to do everything 3 times and the 3rd time its a charm so thanks to my bad luck good friends thing do work out for the good. I know that Josh hated to see it go. Its not the end but a new beginning. Thanks man, your the best. I owe ya big time!!!
So here we go. Marathon time, I striped all the paint off the block then cleaned it and painted it. Looks pretty good.
While I was getting the motor ready to go Josh and Scott took the old motor out of the car, As Josh would say (Taking out the trash) They took the pan off so we could see what it looked like inside. We found pieces that took a while to figure out what they were because they were so mangled and miss shaped. This is the true definition of a blown motor.
