Yes I like the cowl vent! I'd get it back, too. Great ventilation for cruising, and the '41 is one of my all time favs.

I've been following your mods and the car is coming along really well. I think this is one of my favorites of yours, so far. I think shining it up has to be the biggest improvement of all. Every time I see a new photo I think back to the first pics of it, what a drastic change.

In 1976 (about) I bought a 47 Ford convert out of a wrecking yard in Toppenish for $175. I think it was an old Yakima car, and it was lowered both ends via 6" long shackles, had a filled hood and deck, the shifter was spun over to the left side of the column, and the remnants of red and white seat covers remained. They look great in mild form-keep going. Mine ended up being sold for school funds, but it looked good sitting in the driveway.

  8. Thanks, I spent about 2 days buffing on that thing, the paint was DEAD! It's not tha nice up sloce, but the shiniest old car I've owned in a long time :D

  9. Stunning! 41 are my favorites!

Keep in mind that when "early customs" were on the streets, they didn't look anything like kustoms of the fifties - the magazine cars. Those kustoms grew out of the customs on the streets in the late forties/early fifties when money wasn't much avialable to those guys returing from the war. Every iteration starts from humble beginnings and Chris's convert is spot on for a late forties street "custom"...there wasn't money in those guy's pockets for radical changing of grilles, chopping of tops and generally disguising a car's origins...

  11. Thank you. I don't think a lot of people realize that, or they simply do not want to admit that they were true "customs". Not every "custom" has to be modified in every way immaginable.

I am very partial to 41's and yours looks GREAT! my first car, which i still have in project form, was a 41 tudoor sedan chopped 4.5". The top on mine is chopped in a way that i have not seen another 41 done. the sides of the car were pie cut and the roof laid forward so that it carries the original roofline all the way to the back of the car, if even uses the stock rear window.

  18. You need to get yours on the road!!!

  19. Beautiful '41 Chris!

Yours is EXACTLY the kind of car my buddy's and I pined for as kids back in the '50s. The lucky few in town that had cars like this were hero's in our minds and the wild customs in the little pages were just so far out of the reach or means of anybody we knew. We might spot a mild custom cruisin' by the school or disappearing 'round a corner back then, but the radical stuff was a rare sight even at a show. Well done - I love it!

  26. I just bought a nice running Merc engine tonight, will probably go into this car for a year or two until I can save up to rebuild it. I was looking for just a crank, ended up buying a whole runner! Nice thing is it is coming out of a 41 pickup, so will not have to do much at all to get it to work.

With all this newer model stuff in your garage what'll be happening to the roadster body???

  29. The A roadster? I sold it to my Brother. The 34 roadster, that will take a lot to get it to leave ;D
