Love those '53 Fords. This one looks just like the one my dad bought new, except for the chrome wheels. He traded it in on a new '56 Victoria when I was 14. Yours looks like it has lots of potential. See if you can find some chrome strips off of a custom.

As you know I moderate the 1952-59 Ford Social Group,my first car was a '53 Ford that cost $25 learned to do body work and rebuilding the engine in Vocational Auto Shop "back in the day" Quote from American Graffiti "Where were you in '62 ?" first pic is me in '62 and second pic is current '54 Ford.Over the years I owned four '53's and three '54's.

Jason, were you able to get the speedo working, or did you just disconnect it?

No we didnt get it to work just left it in and drove with the noise! Haha.

  12. ya know i had to get my speedo rebuilt. it cost me like 275... expensive but worth it. especially, if you have a mom like i do, that is constantly asking about every gauge and meter working so you dont "blow up" lol

im 20 and my mom is on my case about my 53 everytime i drive it haha

Had the same problem with a speedo cable years ago the lube gets thick when it gets old,I sprayed some WD-40 down inside the cable and ran it it about 40-50 miles later it was working fine.

Looks good man, check out some pictures of my 52 in my profile. Shoot me a pm with bodywork questions if you have any. Just replaced the bottom 6 inches inner/outter on mine last summer. Good luck, sweet car!

53 Vicky was my first car, 1958, ran the shit out of it and had fun. Flipped spindle supports, de-arched springs, Castillion Red paint. Great times. Do good on your 53.

Awesome, Jason. Glad you had a good time. 150 mile trip? Excellent. I guess the Ford passed muster on its maiden voyage! The car looks cool. I saw more than one old Ford like yours when I was a kid in the early '60s. The owner would fix it up as he drove it, so it would have primer spots here and there. Sittin' level, jacked up a bit both front and rear, with tall blackwalls, original steel wheels and caps. Big cam and open dual exhaust. You could see the primer spots morph and change as he'd do the body-work in each area. Then all of a sudden, one day...bam...painted.

  29. My first car was also a 1953 2 door sedan, though mine was the Customline I believe- a bit more chrome- mine was purchased for $50 and I touched up the paint using my Mom's Electrolux vacuum- this was in 1960- I was 14 years old- rebuilt the flathead- shade tree mechanics- had a blast in that car-
Mine was a Dark Green with gray interior- you are doing great with yours- keep up the good work-
