Projects **** My first Custom '54 Ford Victoria Build Thread ****

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by daddy_o's_diner, Jan 14, 2010.

  1. Ya hear that Mikey, they like it... they really really like it!!!!!

Seriously guys, thanks for the support. This is my first go at an old school mild custom and I'm trying my best to get it right.

I should be able to start hanging the fresly polished stainless on it this weekend and get the bumpers on it before long. The floated grill is still at the platers and won't be done until early may.

It's still got a ways to go but I'm getting excited to see it come around. I'm pretty happy with the progress so far as we didn't even start on the car until December.

    More later...

  7. Quick update...

Bringing it home from the shop tonight!!! :D
Still a lot of work to do yet.
    need to finish:
    installing some exterior trim
finish some interior panels and completely install interior
    wire and fire the engine

It's 80 degrees here today - getting excited to get this on the road. I'm hoping to have it all buttoned up by mid-May - sooner if I can get some extra time or friends help out. I'm working on it alone and with very limited spare time - life keeps getting in the way - whats up with that???

    More pictures soon

What a fine looking car! It's sure turning out to be a smooth custom- I know I'd sure like to build one someday! Congrats on the progress so far- I'll be looking forward to interior pics!

  9. Just a little update....

Most all of the chrome and trim are on except grill - its still not back from chrome shop.

All interior is done and just needs installed. Started on that tonight.

Underhood is coming along nice. Hope to have engine fired next weekend.

Trying to make it to Bulletproof on the 15th. Won't be done, but hope to have be it there.

    Updated pics soon........

Kool, can't wait to see pics of it on the road.

  11. Another quick update...

Got the engine fired this weekend. Also got the narrowed grill and parking lights back from the plater. LOOKS KILLER!!!

I need to get the grill installed and get some decent pics of the car soon. This maybe tough as it is suppossed to rain here all week.

Still trying to make billetproof this weekend - but have a ton of work to get the car together enough to be there.

Also need to prepare for a family reunion at our house on Sunday. Wifey seems to think that is more important than some silly car show - Some people just don't understand!!

  12. I made it to billetproof!!!

I still have a lot of interior work to get done and some trim work to finish - but it's on the road. God the first drive felt great!!! Come to think of it, every drive in it feels great! :D

I haven't had time to download pics I've taken of it, but here are a few from billetproof I stole from others on the HAMB.

Your car is awesome. I was definatly influenced by it during my build.
Yours is smooth, timeless and not overdone - PERFECT.
You set the bar high and gave us newbies to the custom scene something to shoot for!

So sweet it makes my junk hurt. You did absolutely *everything* right on this.

  20. I thought customs were for getting girls (and hot rods for losing them). Nobody said anything about making guys junk hurt?!?! LOL

    Thanks for the complements.

  27. Thanks again for the kind words eveyone.

    Here are some updated pics.

I need to finish up the interior, but have been too busy.

I'm having a litle bit of a motivation problem also. This is one of the nicest cars I've had, but for some reason I'm enjoying it the least.
    WTF!! :(

Uh-oh! That has happened to me, too, over the years. I have owned a number of really nice cars, but just couldn't get "into" some of them. I wish I could understand why, so I could prevent it from happening again, but I can't.

I have, however, identified myself as being driven by the "build-it" gene rather than the "own-it" gene, and that may have something to do with it.

Once it's finished, I lose interest and am ready to find some other rusted-out hulk to bring back to life. Strange, no?

So... Everything I own is in a perpetual state of unfinished-ness...on purpose.

Don't understand it, but I recognize it in myself and have adjusted myself to it.

Human beans are a strange lot.

BINGO!!! That's me! I joke that I have Automotive A.D.D.

To me the fun is finding an old one and making it look like I think it should. Once it does, I'm dreaming about the next one. I've got a big bucket list of cars I want to do - and it's getting bigger all the time. It's a sickness.

I've got a '38 Fiat Topolino drag car to do next. I'm feeling a Late '60's vibe - lace paint - mechanical injection, etc... Oh, and a nice pick-up or station wagon to tow it around with.
