After a really long of time of looking, and researching, and generally bothering people, I finally went out and got myself something. It's a '53 Mercury Monterey. 2 door, already has some custom stuff done(Shaved, nosed) a flathead would've been extra cool, but she's got a sbc. That'll do just fine, I suppose. I'm pretty stoked, it's a driver, a good head start for a true novice like me. I got to tell you-the drive home was pretty fun. The car was about 45 miles away, so a buddy and I drove out to pick it up. Now, the gauges aren't working(which I'll be asking you all about real soon). Being the cautious nerd that I am, I asked my buddy for advice. He said "don't sweat it, just go with the flow of traffic". Fine, so we got on the freeway, and it was great. You've all got to understand, This was literally my second time behind the wheel of an older car. It was unlike anything I've ever experianced. Just the sound and the feel were something new. I don't think I stopped smiling the whole way home. When we got home, My friend asked " What the hell were you doing?" I said "What? You said just keep up with traffic" Well, aparently, I was pretty much doing 90 the entire way home!
I'll try and get some photos up soon. I'm actually waiting for the guy I bought it from to send me some photos so I can post em(No camera for me!) Till I get the photos up, It's flat black(I know, hard to believe!)nosed, decked, frenched, shaved, WWW's, with the original hubcaps(with the little merc man on them), a couple of little scallops. Oh, and real spotlights, not dummies. They might as well be dummies, they currently don't work....
Weell, you bought a pretty darn solid car if you felt comfortable goin 90! yeah, that kind of surprised me bit, too. Scared me a bit after the fact!
