Straighten out a fishing hook, braze it to a 1/8 welding rod, spear them and pull them out. Har**** technology
Go to the store and buy few paint balls. Take them home and try putting them in various solutions to see what happens....Vinegar...acetone.....solvent...etc. Something has to be able to soften them up and/or disolve them......A heat gun (or even a torch) into the water jacket would probably melt them pretty quickly.
Squirrels (the fuzzy, 4-legged kind) like to find small, round objects and hide them in crazy places. Small children sometimes also like to do the same thing! I found dog food pellets inside the cavities of the deck lid on my '40 Ford coupe that had been stored in a shed for many years.
Hey!! I got 4 out and have one in water(got softer bigger) one in simple green(did the same as water but faster)one in lacquer thinner(nothing happen)put the other in boiling water on the stove(wife was out)it broke apart but did not dissolve. Pete
I've done this when/while cleaning out the water jackets from casting sand that was still there from Henry - it works great!
Wet/dry works for clogged sewer lines and traps, I've used it to take stones out of a 4" house trap. It will take out these balls.
Tried it!! the problem is the suction is thruout the water jacket and not at the point needed, plus the balls only fit thru at two places, maybe in can block the other holes somehow and get the suction at one point. Right now the head is on and I put a plate at the water pump so it is soaking in water to soften the balls up enough to flush out the front.I made a hose bib fitting to go on the head to flush out the front. In a couple days of soaking I'll know(Its snowing right now) Thanks for all the ideas I'll try them all until one works!! Pete
How bout a pressure washer set on a pin point stream? Or the shop vac with a length of 1/4" brakeline taped on the end? or a piece of inner speedometer cable in the end of a drill? I was only trying to get casting sand and crud out. RB
Let soak for 2 days in water to soften up the casing, used a tig welding wire and punctured the balls, bent a hook at the end of the wire and fish them out, flush and repeated 4 times the balls keep coming(about 75 balls) and 3 hours later I think I got them all!! soaking the other side now but did not see any in there, wiil flush out and hopefully I don't find any!! Thanks for all the tips!! Pete
I don't really know!! I'm guessing a disgruntled employee where it was rebuilt? It would take some doing to get that many balls in there(rotating the engine side to side and front to back) there seams to be a large pocket in the back of the water jacket that had 80% of the balls!! I,m lost as to why(I,m just glad I got them out) And if it was intentional I hope the person gets the Hershey Squirts while being stuck in traffic in the left lane on a highway at rush hour Pete
After reading what Nailhead Jeff wrote, I cannot stop wondering if they might indeed be some kind of block sealer? (I never heard of block sealer in "ball" form, but I've never worked in a machine shop either.) If they ARE...then I would worry that there might be a hidden crack somewhere inside this block, which someone was hoping to plug? I sure hope not, but the "block-sealer-balls" idea makes a lot more sense to me than kids stuffing paintballs inside a block. Yet, who knows? But for the OP's sake, I sure HOPE these were paint balls, or anything...rather than a clue leading to finding a cracked block. Good luck!
OUCH!! Yes I hope they are paintballs! I boiled one on the stove and the casing would not break down(It got soft just like in cold water) and the fluid inside dissolved. Fingers crossed!! Pete
