Wow! I've had Hagerty for decades and have had 3 claims, all handled promptly and settled quickly and fairly. I carry full, agreed value on mine. One of my vehicles was totalled and they were ready to cut me a check inside a week.

    Perhaps that is the difference.

  2. Thank you for posting the occurrence date.
A lot of great testimonials posted here, without the dates....I've found that many companies start out with great service and intentions, but over time falter.
Recent examples hold far more merit....like the old saying "what have you done for me lately".

Long time Hagerty customer, never had a claim except for towing on a roadside breakdown. That went well.

I agree that recent history is what counts, especially because Hagerty went public about three years ago. I'm sure there is a lot more pressure on thier bottom line now. Can't say its effected thier quality of service though.

My first claim was Sept 2010. Took about a month to get it handled. Second was Aug 4, 2021 (my bday). Took about a month to get handled.

Sorry for your trouble. I'd suggest calling Hagerty's claims # (800-385-0274 but you probably already have it) and insist on talking to each person's supervisor until you get to someone who cares and can help. They'd be in touch with you pretty quickly if you were late with your premium.

As an aside, we were rear-ended in early November driving our brand new OT SUV (I'd be dead if I were driving anything else). Nationwide sent us a check for the full replacement value in less than three weeks. You deserve better with your car, too.

The dates for my claims to Hagerty were 2021 for the Buick and 2023 for the roadster as noted above.

I was treated like gold by Hagerty until I had to file a claim. I had the best coverage available on my Car but they wouldn't even pay half of what it cost me to repair. That was the worst car insurance experience I have ever experienced. Run away from them, they are cr$$ks! Now, let me tell you how I really feel..

Had a $10,000 claim on my avatar in 2024. I felt I was treated great by them. Had to do the normal thing with estimates, pictures and was settled in short amount of time. Ezee peezy.

On a side note, but somewhat related - when I was building my '33 coupe, I had it insured during the build phase. It was covered in case the building burnt down or whatever. I changed / upped the coverage once it was registered and roadworthy. Super easy process.

What type of policy did you have. Stated or agreed value. It sounds as though it was stated value which lets them off the hook for full value or repair

I switched to Hagerty about three years ago. I did this because of the good things people said about them and the fact that they were only one half the price of my previous insurer (Condon & Skelly). Like many of you, I have never had a claim, so I don't know what will happen when "the rubber meets the road".

There is one thing. I get this great magazine every couple of months that must cost a ton to produce and distribute. I feel my cost is ridiculously low for what I get, and sometimes wonder how they can do it and make any money.

I had Hagerty Ins. for years, and each year they raised my rates about 10% with no claims ever by me. Then one year they sent me a notice telling me they were dropping one of my cars because they "had information telling us your car isn't stored on your property". Total bullshit, and I called to talk to them and ask where they got this info? The agent refused to tell me where the info came from, and instead said if it was wrong they weren't going to drop the coverage after all. I demanded to talk to a supervisor to get an answer, but that person also wouldn't tell how they got the info! I was really mad that they'd somehow get this info and not contact me to ask if it was true before threatening to cancel coverage.
So I began looking for options and changed my insurance carrier to Chubb Collector Car Insurance. Chubb's rate was almost half of Hagerty's and after 5 years with Chubb I've never had a rate increase unless I increased coverage, or added a vehicle. I had two cars with Hagerty, and have three with Chubb, and still paying less than I did at Hagerty for far more coverage!
I'll never insure a car with Hagerty again.

  14. Hagerty refused to offer me a agreed on policy so I went elsewhere. Ended up being cheaper and higher value coverage.

I have heard a lot more complaints about Hagerty since they went public in 2021 then I ever heard before that. Need to please their shareholders now more than their customers.

My policy calls it ''Guaranteed Value", Hagerty's term for agreed value. @phat rat - thank you!

I didn't know they went public in 2021. That may change many things about how the company does business. I wonder how the people who have had positive and negative experiences relate to the public and private timeline.

I have two car insured by Hagerty. Two claims, 1 for a tow (rollback) about 8 years ago. I thought the response was pretty quick considering my location and the driver handled my car with care. In 2023 I had a damage claim, It happened in a parking lot and was not my fault. Hagerty handled it quickly and fairly. Considering two insurance companies had to come to an agreement about what happened (without a police report) and who should pay, I think it went well. remember to take pictures of the damage, of the location, cars, buildings in the area, license plates, drivers license, and insurance cards. That makes it easier for the claim to be processed. finding someone to do an estimate on a street Rod in my town was difficult.

I had a freshly painted Harley , was hit in the rear . It was 1st ride with rebuild and new paint . Kid hit me hard enough to knock me off and down the bike . Adjuster was at my place next day . He says “ no pay for anything not stock . “ my answer was “ well I hate to see it but you just bought a wrecked Harley !”
We around for a few weeks , finally I threatened to contact an attorney my back and neck were getting worse . Adjuster says I fully understand “ your estimate will be covered in full . “

What other business do you know that is never to take a loss ?
Bottom line all insurance companies suck at sometime or another , claim payouts are controlled by profits

That is quite common. I haven't personally dealt with Hargety, so I can't provide any insights on their services, but I can definitely say only good things about frankenmuth insurance customer service. They have always been incredibly responsive and helpful whenever I needed assistance, whether it was policy-related questions or handling claims. It's important to have reliable support when it comes to insurance, as you want to be sure you're in good hands when unexpected situations arise.

Something to think about concerning OT auto insurance . You purchase a car new it costs X number of dollars to insure it . The auto value drops from the day you drive off the lot and drastic every year afterwards . Have you ever had rates lowered because of the value of insured auto lowers yearly ? Just think about you go to sell it and an accident shows up on car fax . Does the insurance co make you “ whole “ by paying you the loss in value you just took because of damages ? I can’t say I ever remember this taking place for me .

Had a tree limb fall on the cab of my '54 Chevy 1/2 ton. Busted out the corner window, big ass dent above it, deformed the window opening, pushed the B-pillar forward and door wouldn't close. A lot of $$$ in damage. Found a shop near me that is a Hagerty approved/preferred shop. I called Hagerty ONCE. The shop handled the rest. No deductible, paid in full. No hassles whatsoever. Agreed value policy. Also had occasion to use Hagerty's tow service. Fast, roll back service. No hassles. You can't get me to say a bad thing about that company.

I never filed a claim while I had Hagerty, but they cost me 3x what American Collectors charges me. $100 of that was for some Hagerty magazine, that I neither asked for, or wanted. Just full of super limp dicked pictures of lambos and corvettes, and advertising for rolex.

But until you file a claim, there is little telling how good a company is...

I filed a claim after a tree fell on my Falcon. They came and looked at it, asked me if I wanted to keep it, and cut me a cheque. No issues.

I asked my Chubb contact how they can sell insurance so much cheaper than Hagerty. She told me it's simple, because all that extra Hagerty charges goes to millions spent on advertising. No collector car insurance company spends as much to advertise as Hagerty does, and the insured pays for that.

  26. The cost to repair doesn't drop as the car gets older nor does the cost to settle medical claims. In most cases it goes up because the cost of materials rises.

That big fancy shop, equipment and stop motion filming are expensive to support.

10 or 12 years ago, I was on my way to Bonneville in my Sedan Delivery. Hit a deer about 50 miles from home. Wiped out everything from the cowl forward. I knew I was in trouble when the idiot adjuster shows up wearing shorts, and wing tips with black socks. Ha had to write it up as a '55 since his computer program didn't go back to '47. It got worse from there. He quoted a price that was less than half of what the shop estimate was. Hagarty sent a check for that much which I refused to accept. I could go into more details, but you get the idea. They did finally pay for the complete repair, but not without a lot more hassels. My current agent, with AmPac Chrome says they have really raised rates and want to cater to the higher dollar restoration crowd.

I personally like Hagerty. I have yet to have a claim but my buddy's chevy II was deemed a total loss and because he had their cherished value insurance they paid him out in full of agreed value $50K and he was able to keep the car and he rebuilt it back better than it was for under 20K.

Don’t repeat that info ! It’s breaking the law to take advantage of an insurance company for your own benefit
