Heh...An elderly fellow on a golf cart, rolling next to your hot rod yelling abusive remarks. THAT is hilarious. Then, to make it even better... he chases after you when you're on FOOT "exposing " you as "the hot rod guy".

Nightmare? Hardy har HARdly. Solid gold memories I say.

My reputation as a thread closer on the HAMB should kick in about now! To keep this on topic, I have two golf carts!

This is the way it is, Louie from the Hamb had his car (32 roadster) parked at our swap meet spots yesterday with a sticker on it and the guy came up and peeled the sticker off the windshield, Louie explained that it is his everyday car and he did in fact bring parts in his car to sell and why should it be any different then the 1000 other newer cars that drove in with parts in them.....no response. we are not going to argue with the officals over this because like everybody has said it is there show. We have tried getting Hot Rods in several years ago as part of the actual saturday show but they must have voted it down, my roadster was alongside Jerry Duncans roadster pu and we were asked to display the vehicles during the car show to get people's feedback, well the feedback was overwhelming but the officals didn't agree. It was funny through the whole week the officals were telling me my roadster was not allowed to be here and I simply stated That The AACA invited me, you should have seen the looks on there faces. Anyway I will adhere to there rules, I have been going to Hershey for 30 years since I was a kid and still enjoy it no matter what.

You young-uns apparently don't know why, when & how Carlisle got it start????

Carlisle was born because tri-5 Chevys were "not old enough" to be allowed in the AACA year rules. So the 2 guys invented Carlisle and the 2 shows worked flawlessly together and EVERYBODY was happy.

Bad mouthing Hershey? ...by so called old-car people??? I don't get it.

****s you traveled that far and had issues.

Can we use this thread to post pictures of our off topic cars now?

Oh wait, this isn't the place for that. Yet it's a good place anyway. Strange

In comparison, why can't I bring my hot rod 72 Cutl*** Supreme to the Round-up?

Well, it's pretty simple really. Rules. Each car group has them and AACA certainly does at it's eastern national meet.

Unfortunately, you ran into a person with a poor personality who could have handled the situation differently. The majority of the guys on AACA forum are extremely friendly and helpful in normal cir***stances and have helped me many times in finding hard to find parts and with their exhaustive knowledge about original equipment, configuration and parts. In essence, they are another resource with a different philosophical bent on old cars.

Smile, live and learn. Here's the link for the AACA forums. Go there and tell your story. You'll get much the same response as you got here with a correct, full explanation (and it will reach their members instead of whining here).

Personally, I wouldn't try to get my "hot rod" into a show that clearly states they aren't invited and I'm not trying to make fun of anyone. It just sounds like these guys were clueless about the "no hot rods" thing, they went to a lot of trouble to attend and upon arrival were abused by an older gentleman driving a golf cart, who then stalked them on foot, even though they weren't IN their car.

You can't make that kind of !@#$ up! Solid GOLD I tell ya.

People saying no respect for hot rods ?? its a 2 way street people. You will have the same additude from Harley restorers about people who hack a bike to build a chopper.
also there are only so many of everything still out there and original,,some should be preserved.

I got my nice 76 Chevelle wagon deleted from the HAMB cl***ifieds. It didn't dawn on me that it did not meet the guidelines for this site. DOH! I was embarr***ed for violating the rules. I really felt stupid. It was my mistake and I know it. There have to be guidelines and they should be adhered to. I get a kick out of how many of the people complaining here would pitch a fit if a billetmobile was admitted to one of their shows.

  14. Bottomline is: People running the events should not treat others that way. I've been doing car shows, swap meets for 30 years and have had my share of ***holes with a power agenda. I've had promotors, gatekeepers and law enforcers try to tell me I cannot come in or bring my civilian car into the event. Most of the time I just want to take my stuff in and park the vehicle elsewhere.

Last year at a large event, a cop would not let me in even though I've been striping there for 10 years. I told him I have been driving in to my vendor space at this show for 10 years and parking my vehicle in my space with no problems, I am diabetic and cannot walk far due to nerve damage in my feet/legs. He did not care and when I called him on it, he reached for his gun and told me "You are not coming this time! Turn around and park elsewhere!! Damn. I did not know that car guys and vendors where viewed as criminals.

I think a lot of events are getting to the point where the players want to control your every move and let you know they are in charge and no matter what they say you must abide by their rules even if that means insulting you.

At another event this year I striped cars all day saturday with no problems. But the next day, the security said I cannot bring cars into the building for stripes. (It was a swap meet building) She basically looked at me as if I where lying when I said that I did 10 cars the day before. Another power struggle. We did find a back door but the point is, why do they not work with us when all we are there to do is serve the car guys and make a few bucks in the process. Vendors and car people keep the ecomnomic wheels rolling, so why do some "higher ups" make it hard to do business?

I am a veteran of hundreds of car shows. I've done shows with 15,000 cars and a few with only 5 cars. You can tell me what to do, you just cannot tell me how to do it.

I went to the Kerrville 100 last weekend, guess what? No problems. And everyhting was just fine. Marko and his gang did care where I parked, how much food I ate, how ugly I am or what kind of car I drove. It worked out great. Perfect example of no need to act like a politico whe running a carshow.

In my line of work, I have people who come to the shows just to watch what I do because there is some entertainment value. I don't want any special treatment and never ask for it, but the promotors need to realize that the vendors and car owners are the reason they can put on the events and even make money. They are not there to insult us or act like gods of the car show universe.

Thanks for listening it's just my gripe.

That was a highly frowned upon display of force on his part. If it happens again call attention to this actions so others see what he is doing and request the shift serguant or whoever the guys superior is to be summoned to the location and file a complaint on his actions.

That was a unjustified power move and it ranks right below don't pull your gun unless you intend to fire it.

Now back to our regular program.......

My uncle is a senior member of AACA has been for fourty years. We have restored many of National winners per their standards and built hot rods as well. He is very open to both worlds, he is also quick to point out that the majority of these people are very old and set in their ways. We were talking about this going through some old pictures and its funny because they were from 1994 and there are a great number of customs and prostreeters with obnoxious paint jobs right beside some National placed cars. Grant you its there show, but times change. Before they realize this, it may be too late to save what they enjoy so much.

OK, here is the offending car. 27 Ford, built in the 60's in SoCal, sat in a garage for decades. Two owners, 283/270 all correct, Muncie(T-10 was replaced many years ago) and a '58 Vette posi rear. She is happy and loves to run!

Not what I expected to see,,,I invisioned a Rat Rod with 6 foot zoomies!

I understand your position but as much as I would like to say the rules are wrong,,they are not,,, although some guys get a little carried away with enforcement.

BTW,,I think you have a nice looking car. HRP

That's pretty darn sharp....I am suprized some p***er by did not buy as you were still near the show. For years, people have "skirted the rules" by trailering an "non elegible" car and just leave the rig parked near the show, and sell it that way

One thing I've learned over the years is that a great percentage of "restorers" are weenies.

I decided to take the high road and went home. I vented last night on the HAMB and went to bed. I posted pics of the offending car today and I am amazed at the reaction. I feel good.

Never a TRUER statement! I had a 65 Corvette and had attended many car show. The vette restorers would fawn all over my car because it was a survivor car. But, if it was judged, they would puke on it because the car had "GM" replacement parts from the late 60's.

My god, this car was driver until 1975 and there wasn't any vette parts beign remanfactured for restoring in the 70's.

    Just can't please everyone.

charlotte nc in april is bigger or just as big as Hershey and if it wasn't for street rods and customs and thier vendors there wouldn't be any show or anything to sell and the local AACA puts it on

how unfortunate that you didn't get a name and a picture of the said "***hole" because the people running the show really don't want that kind of people representing them. nice ride and maybe venting here will help inform others going to be on the watch for "rude muther****ers"

Sounds like you did the right thing? From the way I read the story and I guess others read it differently or just cant ****ing read hardly I think I woulda looked up the heads of the deal and definitely voiced my opinion In fact you still can since its a national organization. Id sure write them a letter and ask them to look into the situation and firmly ask that they find the ***hole that gave you the bad time and adjust his at***ude. Id also ask for a letter in reply stating what if anything has been done so in the future this doesnt happen to someone else.. Sorry but ive been treated like that and id have prolly been in jail or close to it cause no one needs to be treated like that. Especially by some retarded reastorer in a ****ing golf cart.. But like i said you can still do something about it... Ya rules are rules but you didnt intentionaly try to break them. A few here i guess think you did. And the other post on a hot rod or custom being there just makes it even more of a ****ty deal.. Like who did he blow to get his car in ? Ha Ha im thinking im more pissed than you are :D:D:D:D:D

Its been years since I did Hershey.I remember people use to live in fear of the officials.Hot Rods have been an ongoing saga there.Granted they have rules and they basically exclude the participation of Hot Rods.
However it doesn't give this individual license to be a twit.
Take the high road.Write a calm letter of complaint to the AACA and the local chapter.CC Old Cars Weekly and Hemmings motor News.
