You've got a cool car, but part of dealing with a volunteer staff is inconsistent enforcement.

I have no idea what you look like, but suspect you're not 275 lbs of muscle and tattoos. Volunteers like you ran into tend to only enforce rules on those that don't scare em. Which oftens ends up as a hammering for the normal guy because they're trying to make an example out of you, hoping the big mean scary guys will see what's happening and won't need to be confronted.

I can see them turning your car away, their play pen, their rules, whatever.

What would have gotten me going (where I in his place) is that after leaving the car parked elsewhere, that same douchebag took to following me around ON FOOT at a swap meet decrying my attendance.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? Do they vet every person at the gate to be sure no hot rodders get in? I mean what the hell? They don't want your car, fine, but to chase a guy around to run him off when he's on foot? Had he done that to me, I would have told the old ******* to get bent, probably in the most graphic fashion I could think up on short notice.

I'm generally polite to people, especially older folks, but when someone is rude to me without provocation, the metaphorical gloves come off. lol Having worked in construction for years, I've picked up curse words that will strip primer and stunt a child's development if deployed in the wrong area. ;)

Anything with too many rules already has most of the fun ****ed out of it. Common sense has been replaced with bureaucratic thinking at that point. Plus that percentage of restorers who can't help being wennies is always there. The creative folks are much more enjoyable to be around, and buy from. Just have to weed 'em out.

The guys I saw s****ing stickers off were young. (See reply#78). And there were 4 or 5 of them, one s****ing, the others watching or talking on their walkie-talkies.
I've been going since about 1975, seen a lot of modified cars in the flea market spaces, even had one there myself a couple times in friends spaces. Until this year I never saw stickers getting s****ed off.
The last few years I've heard that Herco (The Hershey Company) has more and more to do with putting on the show. I wonder if that's what's up with the new "policing"
Antiqers Hatin' Hot Rodders...Doesn't get more traditional than that!
And what ever happened to the Boy Scouts and other kids that would haul your junk for you?

I think everyone is missing the point of this post, its not about the rules its about how he was treated. No one should be rude to anyone, rules or no rules.I persobnally would have gone to someone over his head & explained to them them how i didn't like being treated like that & if it continued i would stomp the old ****er into the ground
"can't we all just get along?"

I saw you drive by my spot near the entrance of the car corral. I didn't see any officials on foot or golf carts chasing you down. I wondered how and why your car had gotten in. I could say a lot more but I think this sign that you drove by to enter the car corral says it all...

As for the way you were treated, I don't doubt it. The volunteers and Deery Township Fire Police have been rude and crude for decades, its tradition.

  13. 2008-25 years = antique according to PA law.

    satanherself,

I'm with you. Enough has been said. Anyone that is willing to take that long of a drive should google "Hershey AACA" right before they do a mapquest.

ought to try finding parts for some of them. especially in that part of the country with the road salt, it's a miracle that a car can survive that long. anyway back on topic. If i saw that sign,i wouldn't want to be there anyway. smacks of "betterthenthoughness"

That's kind of funny to me because it must have been 1983 when the guy on the loud speaker made an announcement telling the owner of the 1960 Chevrolet to please get his car off of the grounds because it was not 25 years old. A 60 Chevy was pretty cool to me in 1983 but rules is rules.:D It did not qualify as an antique. I always remembered that. This is not a new phenomenon.

Ya know, I say **** 'EM. You should have ran into that piece of **** and pushed his golf cart across the grounds. When he gets all done yelling and peeing himself tell him that your throttle stuck. THAT *****!

Glad I wasn't there. I would have slapped him so hard that his pace maker would have gone off.

I hate those gold chainer mother ****ers. I'm gonna go Chop a Model A in his honor.

I think it's pretty amazing that a newbie has dedicated over half of his HAMB posts to crying about how he didn't read the rules and expects sympathy. Give it up, *****! Please close this ****!

No different than the HAMB not being about anything post 64. It's not "better than though". It's "this" is the kind of car we want at our show.

It's their party and their rules. Besides, would you welcome one of THEIR cars to your event? I'm guessing not.

Now we are really impressed-you used color and capital letters and swear words! The question now is why are YOU on the HAMB at all? Should we be impressed? Will we look forward to your future posts? Maybe you should just stop at 134 posts and join a board that will truly worship you. You've sure missed the target here.

This "hot rod" was at Hershey this year....I don't know how they got in. I don't understand all the rules...... All I know is that every year they allow more golf carts to be driven arouond and run into you while you are walking.........

The AACA still puts in the best damn sawp meet in the country...maybe the world...........

thats my friend Roger's car, that i mentioned earlier. I was parked with him, and after a bit of a debate it was deemed that they were our transportation cars and alright to be inside, NOT FOR SALE.

I'll let Zach tell his own story, but one of the differances is this car was driven into the flea market as transportation, Not for sale. The other car was going into the car corral, where it would have been for sale. The golf carts is a liberal thing. The liberals, yes those liberals, have made your's and my health records a secret violation of civil rights. So NO proof of a handicap is needed to obtain a golf cart, which are meant for handicap ONLY. There are many driving around for the conviniance that should not be. This guy met up with a Hershey region VOLUNTEER with an at***ude, it should have been handled differantly. But from what he's written here I'm sure the at***ude went both ways!!

It's amazing how some simple "humanity" can pull the plug on any given situation. While driving the Royale to the swap space I too was confronted by several volunteers about the lack of the sticker on the W/S. I simply told my story, calm and as a true enthusiast, let them know I understand their position and thanked them for their efforts, was sent on my way all 3 times...with no sticker. Logic, respect, reason. They really are mainly like all of us.

So, if I were in the T I'd have stated how the historic significance of the car was the reason they sold me the spot and thanked him for his efforts to keep the general billet rod out per the AACA guidelines. I'm thinkin I'd of got my way. Perhaps not, but we would've both felt better about the outcome.
