YES! that had some great lines and I liked the front fender treatment. The sidemounts could go IMO for a sleeker look. Being on a trailer made it look a lot taller and ruined racy look. Price was under $20,000 if my memory is right, owner was a nice guy to talk with. I had a great time, meet a lot of HAMB members, but will have to wait another year to meet Megan. Bought some bits for the '30 Roadster project, and treated myself to a RAJO head for a T, just the casting, I'll have to find valve and rocker gear. Hit of the show for HAMB friendly cars was the '32 Ford Dry Lakes car in class 24A, the Walter Morrison Roadster.Grab your issue of the Rodders Journal #40 for the detailed history on the car. The owner and his wife were the nicest people you ever want to meet, he was wearing his Bonneville 200MPH Club hat and talked about the Salt and showing the car at Pebble Beach. Good time, somehow different from the old Hershey meets, but I'll be back next year for 42 in a row.
Custom? Yes, factory GM custom. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Futurliner Used to be a train? Uh, no.
I took a picture of the Willys at the swap at the 40th Annual Street Rod nations in Louisville. That was in Aug. and it said $35,000 then. Never been to Hershey, thanks for the pics.
Heard that Hudson rag has been there for years.40k seems like alot.I guess thats when you make a custom out of it.
I think it's an ego trip for some guys there to put a super high price on stuff and feel like they're hangin' with the high rollers, but there are deals to be had you just have to slow down and look for 'em which is hard because there's a lot of ground to cover.
Thanks for the pictures anyone know how to get in touch with the seller of the 32 5window please help Steve 612 860 4323, slaugtug@yahoo.com
Bob, I'm a big fan of rear spares but on the Hupp the sidemounts actually looked kinda neat cause they were were covered and hanging in space with the cycle fenders. That was my favorite car of the weekend, and that includes the high dollar stuff at RM. I passed on the show as it was raining so we headed home.
Do you think anybody on aaca has a pic of that car? I'd really like to see it...or at least some details: approx year and what about the "cycle fenders"
Did anybody see that roadster in the Chocolate field for $975? They didn't know what it was, but if I would have had a way to get it home, I'd have bought it. Camera took a dump, so I couldn't take a picture.
Like an idiot I didn't take a picture. But it looked like this, only unrestored. http://www.flickr.com/photos/pixbykris/3715401238/in/set-72157621235983835/
Hudson and Terraplane had the Electro-Vacuum shift mechanism which they called "Electric Hand" from 1935 through 1938. Cord first offered it in '37 and then again in '38. So I think, if anything, Cord has a shifter like the Hudson and Terraplane! LOL!
That photo gives a much better view of the car, maybe the sidemounts could stay afterall. I did chat with the owner about it, HE was the one that said it would make a heck of a Street Rod.
Hershey was great as always. I have went the last four years. I have bought a car there every year. This year, I looked for 3 days and didnt see anything that I liked or could afford. Then, 3 hours before I had to leave for the airport, I gave this 36 a closer look. 96K original miles, mostly original paint & interior. Original 21 stud also. Now it is on its way home to my shop!
I would say you did really well. That '36 is a honey. I'd drive it like it is, at least for awhile. Examples like this are getting almost impossible to find and if you scored it for the price on the windshield..............homerun!!! Frank
Rocky, I don't know the car but it's local. Palmyra is just about 4 miles east of Hershey. If you don't want the AAA badge I'd be interested. You did good, I like it just the way it is.
The guy I got it from said it was sold new by Keller Bros Ford agency in Shaffertown. He said they are still in bussiness & might have info on the car. He said it stayed in town its whole life. It's a cream puff! I walked by it several times without really looking at it. then, sat morning, I was standing by it while I was watching the show cars driving into the show. The more I looked at it, the more I liked it!
The more I see of stuff like the 36....the more I may buy my next car as opposed to building it.....just saying....you couldnt build that car for that price....
Rockey, Keller Bros. is a car/tractor dealer. I've been there many times. They have pics in the showroom from around 1910-20 when they started selling Fords. Congrats again on your purchase.
If you guys liked the 36, check out my 40 I have for sale in the classified. I wish I could have been at Hershey with it, but the home front takes priority. Next year maybe I'll just spend one day in Carlisle and make it to Hershey.
This was the first time I had vendor spots at Hershey. I just wish I had gotten out more to walk around. There is too much to see! I did get to talk with Fay Butler which was very cool!
Nice to see you picked a HAMB members sprint car! Used to watch that Buick Stock Car race Saturday nights at the Danbury Fair Racearena.
Hershey was great this year as allways. You see the weirdest coolest stuff. Anybody take a picture of that 30`s roadster made of bondo?
