But alas all is not well...

it had NO BRAKES... zero, zip, nada.... and this is after I spent $1200 with a HAMBer in Houston to do the brakes... and there was a new (and only) dent...

There were also a few questionable things I found... a cotter pin used as carb linkage and a return spring on an electrical wire...

I actually filled the master cylinder and ended up getting some pedal... Now I did notice that there were all new lines, but I'll be pulling every wheel and checking to see if the new shoes and wheel cylinders are there...

I also didn't get the pics I was promised of before it was loaded on the transporter as promised. The transport said he informed them of the lack of brakes while loading and it's noted on the invoice. I also didn't get the work order from the shop that worked on it to document what was done... I guess I got fucked in Houston...

I got one sitting here, so I might, depending on how the thing actually runs. The carb was supposed to have been rebuilt as well but it just looks like the float bowl was taken off... I will rewire it this week though for sure...

I just need to wait for my ass to stop hurting...

You have a right to bitch.
A good HAMBer would make it right IMHO.

Not only a good HAMBer, but a person with dignity would as well.
If it does turn out you did get screwed after checking it over good, and it's not some coincidence, you have every right..
    Good luck

He hasn't posted in a while but he's still registered and he's a shop owner to boot. I'm wondering what the $1200 went to. It sucked but I got the truck off the transport with my come along... It was mid 90's and sweaty but I got it off... The battery wasn't tied down or anything either and was laying on the engine with battery acid everywhere... I know what it cost to do a brake job and and the parts for the International were a little more... I had them put a ignition switch in as well, but damn I just can't figure it out... Tomorrow I'll pull the wheels and see what I find....

Depending on how this shakes out I don't see any reason why you couldn't name who did the work. At least let Ryan know. I think he takes a dim view of people on this board taking advantage of others here. Just my opinion.

I want to pull the wheels tomorrow and take a look at what's there. Should be new shoes and wheel cylinders and talk to him Tuesday morning to see what's up before that. I'll PM Ryan and let hime know, rigth now I'm just a little peeved about the whole thing.... If there aren't new parts there and the drums aren't turned I'll be even more pissed and there will be a post about it. It's funny that the transport had a hard time loading it because the brakes weren't workign right and he was standing right there...

Zman glad you got it home. Sorry to hear about the sour taste in your mouth. I really want to hear how this goes down, as this guy is in my backyard. I don't know Hans, but I met a guy that works out at Hans Rod & Cycle and he had nothing but great things to say about the place. I hope you got the work done you were supposed to have gotten done, if not you've got a large support base for helping you Blacklist this guy in Houston, should it come to that.

Well I just spent the last hour or so with the truck. I pulled the front passenger wheel and there are indeed new parts in there.

I didn't have time to pull any of the others but for now,or until Thursday, we shall assume that they are the same. So at least that part is right. The inside of the drum doesn't look like it had been turned very much if at all and showed a bunch of pitting. So I'm going to assume for now that the empty master cylinder was an oversite and that the brakes just weren't bled worth a damn, they are working now but are very squishy. I'll bleed them out Thursday as I'm taking the day off to try and get the truck roadworthy.
I'm not as mad as I was and am just really disapointed that anyone would let a vehicle leave there shop without checking it out first. The cotter pin for carb linkage is just ghetto and there is no way I would ever let theat leave my place. The carb return spring is the same thing. Even if it was like that, and I'll assume that it was, I'd have to fix that when I rebuilt the carb. I was charged for a carb rebuild,or so I was told, the work order didn't make it, but I'll be trying to get it tomorrow... On a whole I'm just wondering where the money went. Carb rebuild, brake job, iginition switch, a used tire, $1200. a little pricey to me for the quality of the work I see, but like I said I'll be taking a closer look on Thursday and fixing some of the stuff that just isn't kosher...

That was $1200 just for the repairs. I got the pics that were taken at the shop to compare with the truck when it got here and the fender isn't in the pics...

Ok I just got off the phone with Han's and he has made me feel better about the whole thing. He swears that the dent/scrape wasn't on his sheet from the transport, I believe him after talking to him. We discussed the carb linkage and the return spring. He informed me that is how they were and didn't want to soak me for more money for them. The brakes will be gone over on Thursday when I get her up on the lift and find out where the fluid leaked from. After talking to him and his helpfullness to rectify the situation I 'm going to go with my gut after talking to him and just think it's part of my shitty luck this last couple of weeks.

I apologize if I went off the handle a bit....

Not bad advice from a pig burner... I talked to him and he was cool about it. Made me feel alot better about it.

  30. You have every right to go off the handle if a shop returns your car and things aren't up to par, especially a HAMBER. I am sort of in the SAME boat right now, some things were done right and others I still need to have fixed before I can get back on the road.....even the shop says it can be dangerous. Now, why would the shop return my car to me with wrong parts and then go, "oh yea, you might want to get that fixed also". Sorry to hijack your thread, but this sort of thing really pisses me off. Im glad yours turned out OK
