Hey, that's great! Gets my vote for damn good HAMB tech!! Cheap, looks good, and very functional!

Cool seat 4ever4. I snapped some pics yesterday of some seats that a friend fabricated for his own deuce roadster project.

  7. COOL seat! A bench will always be more useful in a roadster, plus I honestly believe that the bomber seat look is starting to become a little cheesy. That didn't stop me from buying this on the weekend though....for $35! Although, apparently it did come out of a 50s British heap rather than a plane.

Thanks man, I've been trying to figure out what to cover the seats in my '62 Suburban with. I was going to use surplus blankets, but the wool was what I didn't like.
The truck is going to be a white roof, suede black body. Don't know about the interior yet, but until then, I'm hitting the surplus store in Athens to look for a couple tents. What you just did is PERFECT for what I'm trying to do.

A lot of British stuff has seats like when you strip them down. Unusual that is aluminium though, usually steel and rusty.

Why, is it taking focus away from the iron crosses and skulls? Wouldn't want that now would we...

"crap they pile on top like floatation devices and parachutes..."
Actually, that odd stuff actually belongs there on much of the military stff, and any kind of real seat cushion would be a customization rather than straight surplus..,
WWII USA figters, for instance, had no cushion at all--the pilot's parachute dangled a bit on long back straps, and served by purpose as his cushion, ready to follow him out if needed. Bombers all varied, but they used a different parachute arrangement I think--there are books out there of restored B-17 and 24 bombers that show some of this stuff.
Actual early rod use of this stuff was generally in single seat competition cars, oft with no cushion at all...I would doubt that anyone ever climbed into a hotrod with a surplus parachute dangling from his back, though...

here is a seat i built last night. i bought two old tractor seats and added to them. they are really comfortable.cut the back off, rolled a piece of 14ga, welded the back rim on to the top, bent a piece of 7/8 tubing split that in half and welded it to each side[IMG]

I went to the surplus store today and got two tent halves (I think one was issued to each soldier, and they snap them together to form a tent). I'm going to do the rear bench in my '62 Suburban, and the two front '59 Panel bucket seats. Cost was $24 for the tent. Your results may vary.
I wouldn't call your idea a trend just yet, but there's going to be at least one other verhicle running around with canvas covers by the end of the month.

so i guess my original stainless bomber seats for $300 was a good deal?

i still cant find a car that i really want to put them in, but someday i will.

Hit the surplus joint Fri. and bought a 40 sq. ft. chunk of canvas for $11. More than enough to do my two seat covers. I might even maks a half tonno cor the Beater. We'll see.

For those of us who don't have a surplus store nearby,Dffel bags are sold on E-BAY f or peanuts, sometime by the dozen. A cheap cover that could be upholstered over..

    My personal opinion...

Bomber seats look lame on anything but a pure race car...

And having TWO of them is just wrong.

They belong in stripped down race cars with room for a driver and nothing else.

    Think the Chrisman 5w Lakester...
    or the Navarro roadster...
    Or the So-Cal Coupe.

If you are building a street car, you should stick with a bench IMHO...

That being said, I like bomber seats and I dig the new bench version...

And the tarp Idea kick MUCHO ass over the MEXICAN BLANKET...

I got about a dozen WWII tarps used by Nazi Special Forces Snipers, that my wife got when a customer never paid her for some reproductions she did...

Anybody think that would be wrong?!!! :(
