Hello good people of the HAMB. I've been a car nut for most of my life. I've been away from it all for a while now, and I'm getting impatient for a new project to get my life back on track. A 30's or 40's truck project to break the spell would be nice. I've been a lurker on this site for some time and decided I'd better register and make it real. I've been a precision machinist and fabricator for about 30 years now. I would love to say that most of that experience was gained building cars, but sadly it's not. A man has got to eat. I have the dumb luck to own some nice gear here at home to remove any barriers or excuses I might try to make up to stop me. Nothing super fancy, just the kind of stuff that lets you work and be creative without ever thinking about your tools. I'm a big fan of safety and building things that stay together. I am a huge fan of the traditional rod look, but I can only embrace and support ideas if I am sure no one is going to get hurt. I've already learned a ton of useful stuff from a lot of the creative people here on this forum. I hope to be contributing soon to this cool community with what I'm up to as well. Take care all, David
Welcome aboard !! I was once a defense department fabricator in a previous life ...Mostly composite aircraft construction, layups etc. so I have a great deal of respect for your skills and profession. Today I work in the automotive industry in the greater Detroit area as a Designer/Stylist. I too, go nuts when I see no front brakes, no seatbelts, no safety gl*** and the like. I see sled tests at work and I have seen what a mere 35mph crash can do to the human body and in today's world, so few people behind the wheel pay attention that you have to protect yourself. I wish more rodders would install 3-point belts and if they think those are wimpy, go all the way and install 4-point belts... Welcome aboard, I think you will like it here...it gets addictive. All the best-W.S.
