My best friend Dave, @Prop Strike , passed away back in 2012 from a brain tumor. He had a passion for Caddys. I got a phone call from his mom a few weeks ago asking if I would do her a favor. I dearly love this family and consider them my family, so I said sure. She had one of Dave’s Caddys stored in an old lean to, that was finally taken out by the Oklahoma wind. She asked if I would come and take the old Caddy. I told her I would sell it for her and she didn’t want that. She wanted me to have it. I obliged her request. So I am now the owner of a 62 Cadillac Deville. The 390 is apart and in the trunk. I will have to spend some time sorting through everything. Body is great, paint is so so, the interior is complete, faded but complete.
Good story mate! And sorry for the loss of your friend. Get it going and drive the wheels off it. Every mile you do is in honor of Dave
I had a 62 coupe DeVille in high school (in 2001). Loved driving that thing and got a kick out of the power wing glass
I also want to extend the belated condolences, but you can remember him every time you go in the garage. Sure hope your tow home was uneventful. My own experience towing home a car with the engine in the trunk was a serious lesson on weight balance on trailers but ultimately no damage. I sure hope this gets a good polish or repaint, not the black primer these cars often end up with.
It was pretty squirelly. It tried to sway at 65. Had to back it down to 60. I'm not a patina or primer guy. I like shiney.
Very sorry for the loss of your buddy. His mom obviously thinks highly of you. Hope you can find a windshield easily. These cars were the reason Caddy had the ''best of the best'' reputation. I dig the wire wheels.
looks great, sorry about your pal, cool that his Mom wanted you to have it. she must have heard you were low on car projects hahahahahaha... that will make a great cruiser. put the engine together, slide a buffer over it , put in a windshield and go cruisin....
I am not sure why Dave pulled the windshield. Looks like they are available. https://www.autocityclassic.com/196...cadillac/chevrolet/oldsmobile/pontiac-hardtop
Sorry about you buddy, The engine will need what it needs but I'd bet that a good detail guy can bring that paint back to shining like new.
There is one door that had the salvage yard pen writing on it. The guy Dave bought it from had spray bombed the right rear door. He sprayed right over the writing.
Paint the roof white and switch to Buick Rallye wheels and that was what I was driving in '01. Lol. Oddly enough it had a dark blue interior
Sorry for the loss of your friend. What an honor for your friends mother to gift you the car! Cool car I’m sure you’ll do him and her proud. Dan
Dave's mom knew you were the one to care for Dave's Caddy, she lost her son but has you as a surrogate son, We all know someone that has lost a close friend, get that caddy running and take her for a ride, I'll bet it would put a big smile on her face and probably a few tears. HRP
The windshield you need for a 1962 '4 window' is a W608 (same as '62 Impala coupe/convertible). The '6 window' 4dr hardtop had a taller roofline and used the W607. Fix it up and remember your pal every time you drive it. Sweet old car.
