Sorry, I think you went too far. Shouldn't have painted anything on the original parts. Might as well sandblast it all now and repaint the whole thing to new.

Ya, alchemy is right, but I still think it's great what you have done.

Heres where a good faux patina artist would come into play or break out the filler and make it straight again then paint.
It will lose some character being straight but you will have a heck of a story to go with it and can say its a real one thats been restored.

So the legs and tail bolt-on from the factory? I'm impressed with the amount of effort you put into making this thing whole again. I may have opted to leave the center section without touching it up but it's still clearly an original one.

I got this today, had been cut up to make a heat shield for a stove pipe in a shed. IMG_2617.JPG

I think what he meant is that you should put a before and after pic in the same post, now. :)

Actually, I think he meant attach a before picture to the back of the sign itself, in case this thread (and it's history) were ever to get lost.

My girlfriend has a painting of praying hands, that had some names written on the back, got it at a thrift shop, tracked the names down, turns out was painted by a nun about 100 years ago, ended up finding another picture in another junk shop from the same family about a year later. She put it in the newspaper (she's an editor) and found tons of history of the picture and the family. If it hadn't had that on the back, it'd just be another dusty old picture in a bin.
