I joined about a year ago, but haven't posted much. Didn't know there was much COE interest here until recently. I just received delivery of my most recent COE purchase yesterday. It's a 1952 GMC 470 series 3 1/2 ton COE, with full air brakes. I found it on the West Coast, in Washington State. Here's a link to it being loaded up last Wednesday, for it's cross country journey, to North Carolina, http://good-times.webshots.com/album/562695973ulKaWB . I've owned close to 30 of these trucks, in one form, or another, in the last 20 years, & i'm available for any questions other G.M. COE owners may have. Alot of people don't know this, but the '47-'55 GMC 450 3 ton, & 470 3 1/2 ton COE's are actually alittle larger than the more common GMC 350 series 2 ton, & '47-'55 Chevy 2 ton COE's. The 450, & 470 series COE's have larger fenders, steps, & step skirts, because of the use of heavier, wider front axles. You can see pictures of my other COE's here, http://community.webshots.com/user/snubnose4754 , & http://www.classiccoe.com/spanky.htm . Catch ya later, Spanky Hardy...Collector Of Fine Old G.M. COE Trucks & Antique Holmes Wreckers.

yeah there are a few guys here that have COE's, I have 3 COE projects right now,
all dodges, 1 is chopped and sectioned, 1 is a clubcab and 1 is a 35 dodge that I am making look like a COE as dodge never made one in 1935:cool:. and my old one is the purple and white one below, it was lost in the fallbrook fire we had out here:( Ron...

I've got a thing for Antique Wreckers, so I'll probably install the Vintage Holmes Heavy Duty model W45 Wrecker unit I have on this one. I also have a Holmes Heavy Duty model W35 wrecker unit, that I removed from a '46 Chevy, that I plan to put on my other GMC COE. My '53 Chevy COE, is already a Holmes Medium Duty 525 Wrecker. See them here, http://community.webshots.com/user/snubnose4754

Been polishing the oxidation from it the last few days. This 'ol boy has the original green paint on it. I can now see that it was originally owned by the State, or either the Government, from the vague lettering on the doors. Says "Department Of Agriculture", with "Forestry Division" below that. Put chrome emblems, & a prestine chrome grille, in it this evening. I'll probably paint the bumper, this weekend. Hey 48fordcoe, those trucks of yours, are "Awesome".

  15. I absolutly love those trucks! Congrats!

I just love COE's...There seems to be more and more rodders building haulers and pick-ups...

Here's a pic of the donor chassis I'm startin with...just picked it up yesterday!
It will be the platform for my
    48' 2 1/2 ton Chevrolet COE 5-window...
Hopfully I'll be able to get busy this week...
I'll be posting a thread since it'll be my first COE build...I'm building it to be the hauler for the 31' Vicki Gasser...

I have a '52 GMC F352. Someone had taken the original engine out and was (trying) to install a 6 banger ford in it. It needs new steps and fenders or a lot of fender work, plus there are parts missing from inside the engine compartment from where they were operating on it. Got two other projects ahead of it. But oldest grandson wants to make it a ramp truck or hauler. Bought a '79 dodge 1 ton dually cutaway for the chassis, has a 440 and a 727 tranny. Maybe someday, after I get a job again! Perley

  20. Dude.... A GMC motorhome for a COE donor???
That's like cuttin' the top off a 32 3window so you can have a roadster :D
Hey, if ya DO knock a Jimmy in the head, pm me pleeeaaase.....I might need some motorhome parts---I own two of 'em(I loves me some GMCs )

I have a 1940 Chevy COE...I want to build a car hauler with it (Hodges Hauler), but not sure if I'm going to keep the stock frame and update the front and rear suspension, or put the 40 cab on a later model dually chassis (85 or so Chevy). Any suggestions? Thank you!! Rob Foreman

Hey Spanky hows it going at COE central. I'm getting very close to paint stage for my COE, see latest pics on page 11&12 here http://rides.webshots.com/album/573567191xiTfam

Question for you. Regarding the two holes above the doors are these rubber buttons? the rubber kit I got does not seem to have any that fit

    Cheers
    Willy
