My "lil red" 1965 Ford Econoline PU arrived yesterday:)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Coupe-De-CAB, Dec 18, 2005.

  1. 14"x6", 5 on 4 1/2 is what it probably has. Personally I like 14" on them.

You know, after I wrote that, I got to looking at that truck and thought it probably had 14"s on it.

14" would probably look good for a low ride....

Thanks Barnett for clearing that up. :D

This is what i've heard ( that it does "not" drive very well bagged) , so now the plan is to replace the front with only a dropped axle and dropped spindles, then ...only bag the rear:)
    Thanks for all your help!

If the shift rods do indeed need new bushings and you can't find any, take and get a small piece of heater hose and cut it about an inch long and split it up the middle and wrap that around the rod and insert in hole where there is no bushing and that will let ya shift it a little better and keep those rods from making noise under the floor. Mine used to get locked up inbetween 1st and 2nd, and that's no fun on a hill. Cool little truck.

With all my writing in the other post, I forgot the important thing...

You can adjust the column shift cross over pretty easy. With the shift lever in neutral, you should be able to put a philips head screwdriver through the hole in the floor next to the steering colomn, and also thru the 1-R, 2-3 linkage. You can kinda see whats going on thru the grill from the outside. If it will go in easily, no adjustment needed. If not, then you loosen the linkage where it attaches to the tranny, and ajust fore and aft until the line up easier.

I'm diggin those Econo's & A100's Man,just last week I was thinkin about downsizing to something like this, This get the juices flowing even more.

I already have the Americans to stick on with bias-plys already mounted & ready to go, Now just gotta get rid of my 29yr old C10 shortbed that does what I ask of it w/its 250 6er& 3spd man trans, cause this Econo/A100 p/u would be narrower. Easier to get between the neighbors motor Home & My truck.

    Great Choice Cab!!!!

Sweet truck !!! My 61 wagon is like that you have to let it do it's thing when going from first to second gear. No speed shifting those bad boys.

It's definitley getting easier now that i tried what Rob and Barnett said to do:)
Just gotta get used to it, but it's coming along.

I found these wheels that i like on the Dragway website, but these guys are in Australia (too far away)

I'm going to look for a US based company that makes rims like this style cause i'm leaning more to the Hotwheel look with the redlines like Rob (Caffeine) suggested:)
best wishes and thanks to all for the nice compliments on my lil' red rider,
    CAB

Nick... see ya soon at the Cow Palace show!

    Dave,
I did go there and was out in about half an 1/2 to 45 min:) bummer was they said i had to get it weighed before i could register it, so today i'm heading out to a weigh station. I stopped by Willies place yesterday to check it out and show him my new ride and as i was there my alternator was on it's way out wouldn't let the battery hold a charge:( Got a new one, also a new battery and installed it there at his place... he's awesome!
    see ya,

  20. Steve,Check the alignment of the two shift levers[under hood]while in neutral......if there is slack they are sometimes staggered instead of lined up perfectly....

It sometimes helps to adjust the 2nd gear lever [a turn at a time][drive and test] then if better another turn in that direction-if not reverse the direction of adjustment]...Good luck on the cool ride man!

Not quite as low as HC's, but probably more along what you'll be able to get with a dropped axle. Also slid my Astro's in there, and cleaned it up a little.

The Dodge A100 short wheelbase van is one of my holy grails, but I like the other variations almost just as much. One of these days...

Wow... your good, awesome lowering rendition!

yea, haven't seen much of the A100's around. ...Is this what your looking for?

are the Dodge(split window) econo's more rare than the Ford Econo's or let's say even the Covair?
Man, this little hauler is going to look pretty cool after i finish playing around with the stylin of it... 60's Kustom on the way:)
thanks again for your creativity skills,
    CAB

  23. Nice ride. I really like it. Check out www.fordsix.com for a lot of help on everything from the body to disc brakes and suspension.

Where in NorCal do you live. By the look of your street, it looks appealing. I used to live in Sac and now in SoCal, but am sufferring from the lack of home affordabillity. I've been thinking of heading North again.

p.s. hey Cab....ever see what one of those looks like with a lil' chop in it?

i think it be so rad to chop and slam my van, just to do it. i know it will never happen, but a chopped and bagged Supervan.

Wonder how low of a chop you could go to keep it looking pretty descent and not too wacky?
Rob check out Sinkemlow's rendition up top, looks good:)

    Hey thanks CAB...

Yeah, that's the Dodge I like, but the van version (like max wedges!). The proportions of all these beasts justs grabs me in groin for some reason.

    Here's a little chop...

This version certainly catches my attention. I love the quad headlights......but I've got a thing for quad headlamp cars.:D

It's like the Mystery Machine's sexy Californian cousin.
