Kjell, magnetos aren't often seen on bangers these days, so I've got a question or two for you on your use of the Vertex magneto on your banger: What wiring do you have attached to the magneto other than the 4 wires that go to the spark plugs? I understand that when you use your starter to crank the motor over, the magneto produces the spark for each cylinder to get the engine running, and advances or retards the spark automatically. But when you wish to turn the ignition off, how do you do that? There must be a wire to an on/off switch. Do you have a close-up picture you can post of how your magneto is wired up? Also, are you planning on keeping the magneto on the engine? Is it working out as well as you had hoped? I can see its advantages if you needed to crank the engine to get it started due to a dead battery, but are there obvious other advantages other than its cool looks?
The magneto will stay here but its not wired in yet im in no rush.. hehe, the way you stop a vertex magneto is to give it ground, so its just a simple switsh the magneto gives a hotter spark than a normal dizzy and burns more fuel alitle harder to time, but i love it
Thx! hope you find inspiration to do somthing with your race roadster (i would so run it with no dors.. )
Not much news here, but i have started some work on the rockerarms for the OHV and got me a new driving hat for those cold winter days
hehe.. i study 1 houer away from my car (plane ride) so thats why not to much is happening but a big update on the partspile will come over newyear
https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=825006044229516 <-- this is a video The ignition was not tuned in, but still it was a great ride!
"The ignition was not tuned in, but still it was a great ride! " Does this mean you put the mag in? Looks like it was a brisk ride! How does it handle on snow covered roads. I would think it would slide around with almost no weight on rear. Happy New Year!!! Earl
The mag is in It was a handfull on snowfull bias plys hehe and yeah.. there aint much weight on the rear... hehe was not posible to drive any faster than in the video... And thanks for the wishes!
What's it going to take to get the "ignition tuned in" on your banger? I saw in your short 7 second video that you had your hands on the magneto kind of like you may have been adjusting it's timing. Is that what you were doing? Have you got any instructions on how to time that Vertex magneto yet? If so, I'd like to know how to do it as well. Ha' det godt!
Love your car, your enthusiasm is fantastic. Can only imagine how you stay warm while driving it. Happy New Year
You are correct! that was what i was doing, but the bolt in the head that holds the Vertex in place after adjustment fell out.. so right now the Vertex is just Ducktaped! Its no problem to adjust it really just by ear/drivability. A God Jacket and allot of smiles Thx! Well, thank you very much!
I Also Promissed to post pictures of the new parts! So here are some Bad Teaser pictures from the car Now, make your best guess on what it al is
Looks like Model B stuff. The head has 3 water pump bolts and I can see the place for the Fuel pump on the side of the block. Does this one have a counterbalanced crank in it?
This is one BB block with counterbalanced crank and a german B block with modern sparkplugholes and aluminium oilpan going to be some cool stuff when im done with it
