My Model A Coupe Build

Stony is a good man, thats for sure. They are having an open house at Oddball Sat Aug 23rd. I won't be able to be there, I will be in NYC for the Rumblers show under the BQE, but I'm sure it will be a great time. I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to get the car down here yet, because I can't get tags for it until the NC Vehicle Theft License Bureau sends an inspector out to look at the car. Apparently my VIN does not match the correct VIN for that period. When I talked to the inspector on the phone, he mentioned that since we custom fabbed a frame, the car might need to be re-titled as a "Street Rod". I'm not sure of what the ramifications of that would be, and I'm still trying to figure out how to deal with this situation, but the short story is that I don't know if I will be able to drive it from Canada since it won't have tags or registration. But if I am able to drive it down to NC, I will definitely let you know before I make plans.

Im dealing with that same situation right now.Its no big deal really.The DMV guy just comes out and checks the numbers on the motor and transmission.As long as they don't come back stolen,you are in the clear.From what the DMV officer told me (really nice guy BTW) the car I'm building will be titled "1928 Ford street rod".I didn't have a title for the body,and I custom built the frame,so thats the best you can do.I dont care what it says as long as I can get tags and registration for it....lol

Evil, that is really good to know. I really don't give a crap about whats on the title, but I was worried about whether or not this would affect the car from a modern vehicle requirements standpoint. I'd be severely annoyed if after finally getting the car I found out that it wasn't up to spec. But if thats not the case then its all good. Thanks.

 

Really nice car, I love all the things that make it different. I have a '35 Plymouth with a few different things, and at the cruise ins, I like to watch as the people discover the parts. They spend more time looking at my car sometimes than alot of tradional rods, whether they like it or not. Love the gauges.

 

Few pics of the body being painted. Getting so close I can taste it.....

 

Great car and thread. I really like the color or at least what I think the color is from my monitor settings. Can you clarify the paint type, color name or number? I'm looking for a medium non-metallic gray (something darker than "dove gray" but lighter than black).

Thanks. I am checking into the specifics on the paint, but it should be a "light satin black", so it will probably end up closer to black than gray.

I'll send new pics of the body and the specs on the paint as soon as I can.

 

Well, apparently that non-metallic gray color you see there is referred to as "second coat of primer", lol. These guys sure are thorough. I'll post more pics when I get them from the final paint.

 

Well, here it is painted and with the body back on the chassis. We are now in the final stage. Hopefully everything will be buttoned up in the next 2 weeks.

I am going to finish off the center console in wood when it gets home, with cherry sides and a bird's eye maple veneer top.

 

Cool build,Its looks like you are getting closer to getting it home.Do you have any shots of the rear frame work.I see the bags back there.I just would like to see how they were fabbed in.

Killer build.....I dig it alot...even the cheesy details I like!!

But one "little" thing bugs me......why go through all that trouble with getting the body that straight, only to paint it flat black? Glossy woulda put it over the top.

 

Thanks Sinister. I like the satin because it does have a bit of a shine to it, unlike primer, but I like the "vhat is dat, velvet?" texture a really good satin paint job gives off.

 

I just wanted to see the whole finished product.Like a pic standing at the rear of the car looking into the trunk.

I am thinking going that route with my coupe and wanted to see if there is going to any room in the trunk after.Will a spun aluminum tank fit back there also?

35, I am going to be able to fit a tank into the trunk. I will post some pics as soon as I can showing how it all fits together. Aman, hopefully I can show more on the wiring as well.

That's dead cool, you buying stuff from over this side of the pond, while all of us are scoring stuff from your place.

The car looks great, dead neat. What is that rear rubber you are using? I'd like some of that on the back of my project '32.

 

Kinda cool cartoony looking but it deserves paint IMHO, some wild orange color or something.

Thanks guys. Morris, the previous post should answer your question. I don't know if Hurst has a distributor in the UK, but I'm sure they should be able to ship from Oregon.

Gary, Hurst did take care of the grooving for me. I don't remember how much it cost, but I don't remember thinking it was over-priced.

Nads, I've always like the black velvety look of satin black, but the more I think about it the more I think you guys are right, that it needs some color. Perhaps in a while.

A few more pics. She's really coming together. 35, I am trying to get some close-up pics of the tank in the trunk, hopefully I will be able to post those soon.

You can see 2 button looking things on the inside driver door. The one closest to the latch is the button for the door popper, the one further back is where the window crank will attach. The little nub on the bottom of the door is the pickle. Shhh, don't tell anyone.
