My little car has been bashed into many times over the years. This one is no biggie. A dude in a Jeep Cherokee pulled a PIT maneuver into my drivers side rear wheel. The wheel and tire are fucked.

The impact knocked the rearend over to the pass side a few inches and the panhard bar went with it and bent the rear part of the framerail.

And put some ripples in the 1/4 panel.

The guys insurance is paying for the parts and some labor, so it is nothing to freak about. But it does remind me that driving old cars is always a gamble, insurance or not.

I guess I could always leave it in the garage...but then I would be a pussy...

    See ya, -Abone.

  2. Better to drive it and destroy it, then have it sitting in a garage never to see the open road again.

Besides I KNOW you can fix that easy.

  6. Jeff,As I recall,,it ain't the first time someone played tag with you,but like you said it is a year round driver.

  7. At least its fixable. I do have to ask why just parts and "some" labor, I'd think they would be liable for all of it. I'm not for soaking the insurance company but surely it must be cheaper than a $100 an hour shop rate.

  8. Wasnt it 5 or 6 years ago you got rear ended!?!?!?

I feel for you bro. I wrecked my full kustom over a year ago. I took pictures but didn't want anyone to see it.

Hitchhiker has it 100% right. I cannot imagine owning a car and keeping it in the garage. Cars are built to be driven!

HRP. That was the dude in the 92 Plymouth Acclaim looking for his cigarette that smacked the back of the old girl some years ago. Totaly destroyed his Plymouth...

If you look reeeal close in this pic, you can see where the tractor trailer drove over me outside of Tupelo Miss on the way to the Drags one year. I kicked the 1/4 and door out enough to get the door open, but it was still kinda fucked..

Hitchhiker, you are exactly right. Better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.

I don't know what the laws in your state say, but in Ma., the at falt party pays for full damages at the shop of your choice. They also pay for subitute transportation or loss of use why it is being repaired.

I would have freaked! I remember driving my 58' Edsel and it seemed to attract bad drivers like a brite light does a moth!! Luckily I never got hit, people seem to freak out when they see 50+ year old cars on the road!

Cool to see you not trippin' on it. Sometimes, even driving with your head on a swivel isn't enough. Here's to a speedy recovery

  22. I feel your pain. This thread caught my eye and i know the feeling. My 28 rpu got rear ended a few weeks ago. So much for the 30 yr old paint i was so proud of. A 4500 series truck couldn't find the brake pedal at the light i was stopped at. It drew a large growd of restraunt goers. People on the street where calling the guy an idiot and just generaly verbaly abusing him. He was pretty embarrased. looks like a little t gate damage but it shoved the box into the cab etc etc. 2-3 thousand damage.
Oh well, so it goes. I drive my stuff despite the inherant dangers.

That sedan always seems to come back better after taking a lick from another vehicle than it was before. I'm waiting for what is in store for it this time around.

My 48 got totaled once by a driver in Texas with no insurance and no valid address on his driver's license. An 80 something year old woman backed into the 51 Merc I used to have and took out the side of the front fender and never knew she hit anything so I can relate to being hit and having life go on.

A good friend of mine with a model A coupe was sitting at a red light early last sat morning, with no traffic around and a guy on a Harley slammed him in the rear .I came up just seconds after it happened and the biker was out cold laying on the road. Scarey sight indeed. The coupe is jacked up and we will fix it. The coupe owner is devastated about the whole thing. Man it just goes to show ya,if your in the wrong place at the right time it doesn't matter what your driving life can change in a instant.

Damn Jeff, sorry to hear that but with it being a daily driver and on the road day and day out with folks who do not pay attention, it is going to happen. what I do not understand, doesn't the QC or blower make enough noise for the other drivers to hear over their cell phones.

did the other guy freak out when he seen what he did and you getting out of the car with a 3 ft torque wrench

it was probably time for a new primer job and flames anyways..

Photo_062307_040.jpg I've been there. Bought a 29 roadster out of Cali. Wrecked it on the tenth day of ownership. No injuries. Rear was torn loose from the frame. Both quarters toast. Frame twisted. Had a protracted battle with Liberty Mutual after the accident was found to be their customer's fault. They tried their best to screw me on value in spite of the fact that I had proof of a cashiers check to purchase the car. Only after I got the state involved was I able to get fair settlement. It took months and was a genuine pain in the ass.
