Here's the car that ate my brain for 8+ yrs. Entire drivetrain from an "83 Ford TurboCoupe. May not be totally traditional, but I enjoyed the build . Should weigh around 1600-1800#'s . So far, goes like stink on the few test drives. No tags, registration as yet. Going thru NCDMV " specially-constructed" hell Here's a link to see more pics http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v294/Turbo26T/
very well done! link works fine if you know how to copy and paste... http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v294/Turbo26T/
A couple of friends of mine have those Zippers. They make a very cool rod. One has the doors extended cuz he kinda big,it runs a 350/350. The other is like yours but it has an Iron Duke.
Neat little car. I think a modified makes a good alternative to having a motor cycle to bomb around in.
Sweet! I've got turbo bird engine/trans pieces to use in a mod some day. I didn't get any induction pieces with mine. Haven't decided what to run yet, carb or fi. Any pictures of your setup?
Yep ! I flat outright stole a ton of ideas from a Zipper car. AAMOF, I used the front part of a Zipp frame and made all the rest. At the time I started ,Zipp was swamped, and ultra-expensive . So ,I took my $180 bandsaw and a MIG welder and went to work . Donor car was given to me for the drivetrain. Bought the body as a shell. Scrounged ,begged, created, bartered, all the rest. Farmed out the upholstery, tho. Found out quick what I could do and what I couldn't do Thanks for all the kind words Stan.
Me likey alot! Plan on building one similar to yours when I get my 41 finished. Thinking turbo rotary power (gasp..) No weight+ more than enough power= lots of fun.
I've had my turbo coupe drivetrain for over a year now. Hope your story doesn't mean seven more years before I finish!! What are you using for ECU? Why did you stick with VAM? Can you show a detail of the alternator mount? Lenny
Rpmrex: Just a coupla short blasts in the neighborhood...Really scoots, using a Garrett T-3 turbo that spools quickly. Used the T-5 B/W trans w/3:45 Tracl-loc rear .All this came out of the '83 TurboCoupe. Haven't weighed it yet ( Just cranked it Friday night 2 wks ago!!) NCDMV is in process of getting me a VIN. Then it's jumping thru a series of hoops(bonds,appraisals,use-tax,etc,etc) before I get it registered /tagged. Seems to ride OK . Using QA1 coilovers w/ progressive springs. Right now trying to dial-in coolant temps, boost pressures, wastegate pressures, etc. Lot of this needs to be done after able to street-drive. Using the EEC-4 ECU to manage the engine, the VAM is on the end of the curved pipe leading to the turbo(See post # 16). Will get some more detailed pics of the induction system. The exh. header was made by a guy in Canada ( Rods Headers). I had 1.74"/150" ss valves installed. Running a very mild stock Ranger roller cam. Lotsa Esslinger motor candy just for kicks. Thanks again for all the kind words...Made the last 8 yrs worth every second.. Stan
May not be totally traditional, but it is sure finished a lot nicer than mine! Congrats, should be fun to drive
