Nice work all around. I just wanted to make sure the bearing in this pic was moved to the bottom side of the axle.
man you are my hero. i love I-6 motors. you have 10 times more room in your modified than i have in mine. awesome car!
the bearing is here because of some mockup clearence with the spindle arm, but will be changed later...
I've got a question about the front heim joint mounts on the ladder bars, is it ok to mount those from one side only, or should they be "captivated" by a U shaped bracket? I've never seen them mounted from one side only, I was just curious if that was common practice for mounting ladder bars...personally I'd rather have support on both sides of that heim joint, rather than it just being supported by one side...
latest news: Started the work on the body, to create a rounded rear section, using the roof of the pu cab.
Just a little update, finished the two rear inferior corners, hammer and dolly shaped. And some motivation...(windshield need a little top chop)
I think the term is "double shear". I try to sound smarter than I am by using big words and technical terms! This is a super cool project, I wondered what happened to it, but couldn't remember your screen name to do a search. I have since found the "subscribe to thread" tool.
Great project... using the roof to make the back section is genius! What transmission are you using?? - Joe
The one you can see on some pictures is the one who come with the engine, from a '66 chevy pu, a 4 speed, but with very short gears and no slip yoke, because the pu was a 4x4 with transfer boxes... So I will not use this transmission, and the one I'm on the way to get is a 3sp manual out from a camaro. As soon as I get the transmission, I can finish the ch***is.
Cool, thanks for the info. I have a 250 in my truck with a column shifted 3 speed (OD from a late 50's chevy.) I'd like to find a floor shifted 4 speed. Great project, keep the pix coming!
thanks ! I will post pics as soon as I will progress on it. But winter is almost here, and my shop is very cold in winter
Spent an afternoon this week on the project. Bolt on the ****** (the previous one on the older pics was a big 4wd truck one, too short gears, too big, no sliding yoke...), a 3sp saginaw, the mount, weld a bracket for it on the crossmember, and add th shifter ***y. Now, I need to install the pedals, and that will be funny, with a so tight place...some headaches to come...
Some progress, with the brake system. I've no place because my frame is really narrow, so, I choose this system, with the master cylinder on the p***enger side, with a shaft and joint system. The system still need some adjustments and work on the details, but works very well. I've also started to work on the parking brake system and on a safety loop. Need now to find the best way to create a good clutch ***y but I don't know now if I go for a cable, mechanical, or hydro system...
looking good, keep up the good work,it´ll pay off in the end, when you hit the streets with that thing.
Spent more time today. The body is back on the frame, for the first time since I've make the rear section of the body. I'm really happy with the result. Started to work on the floor structure and body brackets. Tested for the first time the room and driving position, just ok. I've make also a little grille and headlight mock up.
Some work today... I completely re-do the rear spring support (old one wasn't ok) and raise the wheelbase around an inche. Make some adjustment on the body channeling, start to work on the fuel tank support bracket (not visible on the pics) Play around with licence plate, taillights, but don't have find yet a good position. Need also to work next time on the arm shocks support. rear portion of the frame rails will certainly will be shortened a little, to keep some little frame horns...
So what are your plans on venting that gas tank ? I got the same one and I figure I'm just going to drill a small hole in the cap. Let me know incase it's a better idea..lol
