Work also on the windshild posts today, almost finished now. Some details (copy from the TECH post) I welded 2 piece of sheetmetal, and finished to weld a third one to "box" the post. the I "caped" the tube section with a hole saw leftover Same action on the stanchion side Using tube sections and metal tab welded together, I made two "brackets" to attach the winshield frame (the original winshield frame of the PU body) to my new posts. And Voilà ! After making a hole on the caped faces, the posts can be bolted on the stanchions. I just need now to finish it, smooth it and later send them to the chrome shop. Need also to by the good bolt, nuts and washer, the one on the pics are temporary.
A little update. some work on the floor and trany tunnel. Also bolted the new custom made main front spring leaf. Before that, the one used was too long, and as my Ibeam is a 37 ford, any spring for this setup was available, so, ordered a custom made leaf from a local spring shop and used the other leafs from a ford truck... And luckily, under load, all is ok, that was not sure before this test, mostly with this "under" spring perch spring location.
Helluva buildup Etienne. That should be quite the sight on the roads in France. I'm looking forward to the rest of the build.
Some work on the firewall. used the half sup part of the stock firewall, reversed, and sheetmetal for the lower part. I've also found several old louvered welder body on the local s****yard, and use some on the firewall. Still need some work but works great.
The arty pictures look like a step back in time. Very nicely done. Looking forward to some pictures taken on the the road.
I haven't work on the project these last weeks, because I was in the USA, in Chicago. But I'm now back home with some cool parts on my luggages, hope to find some time to work on it soon...
After almost 4 months without any major work on the project, I've re-started to work on it last week. Nothing big, just a little start up. I've started to rebuilt the f1 brakes, will use some new parts (shoes, cylinders, bearings). I've also start to make some steering mock ups, using 37/41 spindles, superbell steering arms, and check some tie rod clearence issues. Of course, tie rods ends will be replaced by new ones. I've also change the water pump, using one without by p*** hose. Will try to rework on it a little bit moire during the summer...
You could just put your tie rod out front. That's how I'm doing mine. I happen to like the look too. Here's a photo. Looking great!
It has been a while ! So, here are some new about my project, who don't have progress a lot these last months. Cleaned my front brakes backing plates with the vinegar technique (works great !) and sppray some primer. Will rebuilt the brakes very soon. and I've completely di***embled the project, to finish the frame, add some gussets, finish the weldings, and try to make a rolling ch***is very soon.
You are getting closer to the finish than you think. It is going to be an impressive ride. Keep the updates coming!
DON'T hang the steering arms off the front... With the steering arms you've got, it'll just jack up your steering. There was a thread on here a while back about a guy who made his own steering arms, with the tie rod out front. He'd calculated the ackerman angle, and it ended up looking great... but it was very tricky, and his wheel/brake selection was limited, at best. But you probably knew that already. Anyway, this is the first time I've seen this thread, and it looks great! I love modifieds!
Some job today. A few months ago, I've made healdlight stands, welded to the frame. I wasn't happy with that. So, I redo the stands, welded brackets, with nuts welded insinde the frame rails, and now, headlight stands are bolted, and can be unbolted. Much better !
Some news: these last days, I got a nice Offy valve cover for the 6 And done a lil kart/engine stand to clean and work on the engine after that, 2 years after getting the engine, I tried to start it for the first time (with the original one carb intake), and wow, it started !! What a great motivation !! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPA2PXq-b4U
