O.K. This will be my first attempt at posting pictures. Here's my story. I moved my wife and kids from Lowell MA to western PA to go to Wyotech. I just finished with the street rod program and now I'm off to chassis fab. I've never swung a body hammer or did any sheet metal fabrication (some structural though, frames, etc.) before I took this class. I started witha 30/31 roadster cowl and a 30/31 gas tank that I picked up for $20 a piece at Amherst. After I sandblasted them and did some repairs, I started laying out the size of the body I wanted. I then formed some "L" channels to make a basic skeleton of the shape I was going for. I then fabbed up the back panel, two side panels upper and lower prtions of the corners. I have ot do final trimming, shapeing, welding and then I can move onto making the doors. Like I said i had never done anything like this before and I'm pretty happy with how everything is coming out. I'm by far no expert on this, but I would like to do this for a living when I move back to the New England area this summer. Let me know what you guys think of this. Thanks Ed
Damn, that is sweet.. what the hell... no expert looks like you know what your doing to me. Please keep us posted on progress.
Ed, for never having done fabrication before you are doing a fantastic job! It must be that you are a very astute student and the instructors are quite competent! Keep up the good work and keep us up to date on your project.
Good job, Ed. Looks like you accomplished more in SR than I did when Iwas in Laramie. Keep at it, and have fun in Chassis Fab. Hank
" I moved my wife and kids from Lowell MA to western PA" ya know when i heared you moved from a perfectly good suburb of bean town to pennsyltucky my first thought was NUT JOB!!!! but that thing looks wicked pissa buddy! keep it up!! and make sure to post progress picks
Thanks guys! I appreciate the support. Those panels were actually made with a bunch of rare and exotic tools. JUst an 8' brake, english wheel, mallet and shot bag, shrinker strecther AND an hammers and dolly. I learned ALOT from this class and recomend this school to anyone who wants to learn how to do this stuff and has no other palce to learn. My only complaint is having to deal with the kids who still think they are in high school. Oh well, such is life!! YankeeSOB where are you from? Yes it was a bit of culture shock moving fro a city of +/- 125,000 to the middle of nowhere. But we'll be heading back some time in July. Again, thanks for the support guys. Ed
Looooooking good!!! Now you've GOT to post pictures of the finished product and the remaining steps to it's completion. Very nice progress so far. Frank
You must be very astute or they got better instructors. I live in Blairsville also, but I'm a lifelong hillbilly... I'd like to look at that in person, by the way I'm not a highschool kid either and thats why I didn't take the teaching position they offered me when they first got here. We'll have to get together. -Frank
