  1. Morphine will affect your memory,

It's a lot like warm Dr. Pepper, only stronger.

Cursing is a good sign too [IMG]

Spudz, I just got back from a short vacation and one of the first things I see on the HAMB is about your mom. First let me say how sorry I am for what she and your whole family are going through. It's going to be a rough time ahead.
Not to steal any of your situation but I feel I should share something. On July 13, 1988 an industrial garage door collapsed on me. It was 16' high, 14' wide and weighed about 1600 lbs. I was hospitalized for 3 1/2 years 1 1/2 yrs. in a rehab hospital, 7 head and brain sugeries. The doctors said after they knew I would live that if everything was sucessful I would be able to dress myself, eat 3 meals a day and spend the rest of my time watching television. They said I woul;d never drive a car again.
Long story , short version. They taught me how to walk, how to get dressed, how to feed myself, how to write, and use the phone. It took another 2 yrs of intense effort but I now have my drivers license back and am enjoying cars once again.
I guess I'm telling you this to let you know that nothing is impossible with a lot of prayer and hard work. I'll be praying for you and your mom and family. My best thoughts go out to you.

  5. Spudz, what can I say that has not already been stated? You are right that life can change in an instant. The doctors can only advise what they know, and most have only limited understanding of how the brain works and the body's ability to overcome such tragic injuries. You and your sisters are going to help keep your Mom encouraged, and she is already showing massive improvement. Keep up the good work.

As a side note, most of my close HAMB friends know this (and now all of HAMB land), but my father had a massive brain stem stroke about 2 years ago and is totally paralyzed from the neck down. I know how life can change in an instant. You do not realize how precious something can be until it is taken away. The road to recovery is a bumpy uphill one at best. I assume your mother is not too old and her younger age will help her dramatically in recovery.

Spudz, I'm new to the HAMB, but I'm sure you'll take my prayers and best wishes for you and your mom along with everyone elses. You're a very strong 18yr old, it sounds like it runs in the family. Best wishes to you and yours.

I called my Mom tonight... told her I loved her. Told her the story and I know we will both pray tonight.

(Called Chris50's Mom too... told her I love her...different kind of love, though..):)

We're pullin for your mom, and your continued strength and good spirits here too spudz. Sounds like your mom is going to pull through so far, that's Great news, glad she's so responsive.

  9. Spudz if you're still here...howz about takin' a few seconds and lettin' us know how mom is doing. I've been going to school to become a R.N. and I've got to say I've seen some strange shit! People collapse from non-visible internal injuries and ones like your mom with, as the doctors put it,"no hope" pull through like a storm trooper on a mission. You are on the right track though. Time, patience and ALOT of prayers backing you dude ya can't go wrong! So far I've learned not to try to figure out what the body can, can't, will or won't do. School is tough but I relate things to the trusty ol' gasoline motor when I can...but when was the last time you saw flathead fix itself? Miracles dude that's what it is...pure fucking miracles. May you and your mom have a major fuckin' miracle dude!!! Sounds like she might be on one now. Hang on it's gonna be a tough ride. If you have half the tenacity that she does you'll make it just fine. I'm not a "religous" person so prayers would make me hippocrit so I'm just goin' to be straight up and tell you that there hasn't been a day since I read your post that I didn't send some good thoughts and wishes your way. Keep strong dude!

Hi,mate just like to say how sorry i am bout ya mom.I believe when it's your time to go ,you go.In this case it was'nt your moms time so she will be fine after all we are all put on this earth for a purpose and what that purpose is we will never know only GOD will know.A few years ago my mate henry had an accident on a motorcycle track day and the bike landed on his head crushing one side of his brain unfortatly it was this side of his brain that does all the motorfunctions for the body and the doctors wanted to turn the machine off.His mum was a nurse and she wouldnt let the doctors turn that damn thing off 4 months later he awoke 2 weeks after that he was speaking and moving and now he is walking and driving a car.The human body seems to have a very strong capacity for survival if you want to live,Henry now uses the other side of his brain because the side he damaged is dead. Now the moral of this is never believe what the doctors say and never ever give up hope if people are thinking of you and sending good thoughts and you are positive you'll do alright because we all have the power to heal ourselves and others we just don't know it.All my best wishes and thoughts and prayers go with you and you mum and your family infact i'll give you an hour right now as i'm off to church and i'll ask the reverend to pray for you and your family God bless you ..................Mad Marq

SORRY it took so long to respond. BEEN BUSY!! All of a sudden I had to take care of a house by myself, cook, clean, etc. But its workin out good. My mom is doin GREAT!! Even after everything they said she wouldn't be able to do anything, but she went to a rehab place for about a month and is doin great. She can't open her left eye and her arm is broke but other than that, she is physically good. She has almost regained her old personality. She gets confused sometimes but its getting better by the day. She is happy and is just thankfull to be alive. Umm not much else. SHe is doin GREAT!!!. THANKS to EVERYONE who prayed for my mom. I prolly wont be able to read the replys but if anyone wants to get in touch with me my cell number is 803-683-1152. Anytime is good. If I don't answer leave a message. I REALLY WANT to make it to the Goodguys show this weekend if I can get off work saturday I am COMMING. Flamedabone call me if you are goin. And if I go we gotta meet up.
