Ok, so my Mom is over and we're hanging out in the kitchen and she asks me if I got my steering column fixed. I explained the fix we did was just a band-aid to get me to the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green this weekend and when I get back I'll have to get a new steering column. She then asked if it was going to be expensive and I told her probably over $1,000 as the steering column I want is about $800 and at least a couple hundred dollars for installation. She asked if I had the money and I told her yeah, I've been saving for a new couch so I guess I'll just use that money.

Listen to this, after a short pause she goes,
"Well you can always go out and sit in your car but you can't drive your couch."

:D my mom's so cool and certainly understands my priorites. :D

When I was 15 and running the rides at Woodland Park Zoo for $1.40 an hour, Mom fronted me $200 to buy a '55 Chevy 2 door BelAir Hard top. What was she thinking? You gotta' love 'em.

My mom p***ed away 14 years ago.

She loaned me the money, interest free, to purchase my Nomad years ago.

She told me when I was growing up, she never worried about where I was or what I was doing because all she had to do was look out the kitchen window and see my legs sticking out from underneath my car.

    I miss her.

I thought you were going to say she gave you the money. Why not install the column yourself and save the bucks ?

My mom was pretty sharp but didn't understand my infatuation with cars...once when I was eating with my fingers and she scolded me, I told her that "fingers were invented before forks". She quipped, "yours weren't!". If she were your mom Denise she would have told you to sell that old heap and use the money to renovate the kitchen. Sounds like your mom loves you very much, enough to put your interests first. Nice story.

My dad gets it but my mom just rolls her eyes and hopes she has enough money for bail.

Thanks but I would never buy a Flaming River when Ididit is a local Michigan company. I need a column shift and column ignition, tilt and I really want it chromed. The difference between a paintable one and chrome is only $100 so I'm going with what I really, really want.

The ignition was not turning off, tumbler getting hung up. After tearing into it seems like there are alot of very used up parts inside with missing "teeth"? and stuff. Imagine that  :D I've wanted a chrome one for many years, now is the time. Plus the fact I won a new steering wheel at an NSRA years ago so I'm going to get the adapter for that as well and install my new steering wheel too.
