My neighbors were complaining.....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fox Valley Hot Rods, Dec 21, 2005.

  1. I recently bought a 28-29 Model A body in several pieces. Had them apart just sitting in the back yard. Neighbors complained about the "junk" laying around. I told them it was a car I was working on. They were not happy. I said...."If I can make it look like a car, will you stop complaining?" They agreed figuring it would never happen.....

The next day, this is what they saw!!!! :D

Think I might have some ground clearance problems.....

I think you gave the neighbor's concern the EXACT amount of respect it deserved, and took appropriate action.
Now, just wheel the barbecue grille around in front of the flathead, maybe set the leaf blower on top of the intake...

That area looks kinda heavily wooded to me...tell the neighbors to stop peering through the fuckin trees and mind thier own bidness. God I love living in the middle of nowhere sometimes....unless I want Papa Johns.

  7. Neighbors...pfft...they need to mind their own business...unless your house is getting robbed...then they should speak up! I'm wondering when my neighbors are gonna ask me, "How long is that thing gonna be under that tarp anyway??"

  8. Bottom line,if its not in the neighbours front yard, tell em to get stuffed and mind their own business fer chrissakes.

Of course, good neighbourly relations are important, but why would they complain about something thats on YOUR land ??? WTF ??

This really gives me the shits....what do they care if its NOT on their land?

That cracked me up because we moved out to the middle of nowhere and Papa John's is the ONLY place that WILL deliver here.

I disagree on telling them to mind their own business or whatever. Just because there are trees or whatever doesn't mean that they aren't a higher elevation or whatever.

They bought their house the same as anyone else and I'm sure weren't planning on living next to a salvage.

As said, sounds like you handled it right. Looks more like yard art now!

We moved out to a big lot to get some space from the neighbors and our new meth head neighbors brought in two nasty travel trailers and parked them right on the fence line.......

Friggin Papa Johns...we have to meet them 5 miles down the road, that's the farthest they'll come.

I never worry about someone getting some kind of project in the yard, or somewhere I can see......I guess a lot of people can't tell the difference between "project" and "landfill item" I tend to be really super anal retentive about my yard/land, and can't even see anyone else's house from mine, so either way for me it's a non issue. But when the people down the road replace a water heater and leave the old one sitting out front for a few months, or surround the house with REAL junk, yeah, it drives me bananas.

thats why we need to develop a hot rod community. hell, the airplane guys do it. instead of a runway, we could have a drag strip. i would love to drive down the road and see rods and customs sitting around. and it would be easy to find a nieghbor to come over and actually know how to help bleed brakes or help you put a hood back on without scracthing it up.

This really gives me the shits....what do they care if its NOT on their land?

I can relate to not caring for the neighbors junk. Years ago they had an old Henry J ex gasser sitting in their yard where they couldn't see it, but it was in the middle of our view out the back. No sweat, it was cool to look at. Years ater, it sold. They then started salvaging cars out of the same spot. Large piles of batteries, upside down junk cars, 40-50 wheels/tires in a heap, and their kid would go outside to play with hammers. They'd spend 4-5 hours a day banging on the old wrecks. The owner was on the local police force, so If I said anything, the answer would be "why is everyone picking on Slim?" I like him fine, he's cleaned up his act, and is now a good neighbor in all respects. Another neighbor had the front of his house, across from us, loaded with lots of junk vehicles, two large satellite dishes, two freezers, a fridge, two upside down truck beds, two ugly homemade trailers, and lots of trash. That was just the front yard. Property line to property line was nothing but junk, the first thing we see every day. He was the kind of idiot that started his glass-pack mufflered truck 1 hour before he left for work (started about 4:00AM) in cold weather, with pipes pointed right at our bedroom. He refused to listen to any requests for peace and quiet, stating it was his property, what business was it of mine? Well, he was stealing my sleep, the sleep of my wife and two little kids, devaluing my property, a refuge for rats, skunks, and possums, and he and his kids had nothing with a muffler to speak of. His kids took off on their crotch rockets at all hours of the day and night, and had only one throttle position, wide open. You could hear them at night, and tell where they were going by the sounds. They'd hit the main highway about 4 miles away, and you could tell it by the high pitched screams of their jap 600s with blooey pipes on 'em. They boys pissed all over my cherry '70 Olds 98 2 dr. hardtop one night. That was a fun meeting, they cleaned it up and had no words of any kind other than "sorry, it won't happen again!" Other than that, they were OK folks, actually. They just didn't care about other folks right to peace and quiet. I wasn't sorry when they moved. If it's cool junk I can live with it, or even enjoy it. If it's just crap, get rid of it. My right to do things like that stops dead when it starts getting into someone else's right to a good neighborhood. Because I believe in that, I get along well with all my neighbors.

And I have a neighbor.......... I helped this clown out, loaning tools, working on his exwifes and his new girl friends car and the kids toys. So one day I come home and there is a for sale sign in the front yard. He comes over to tell me he bought a bigger house for him, the girl friend and all their kids and he is gonna move. Good bye.
The house is on the market for about two weeks and he pulls in the drive and parks on my grass. I say hi neighbor hows it going. He says he's got issues. I said so does most of the world. He says he can't sell the house cause it has a shared driveway, no basement is too far away from the river (riverfrontage) electric heat etc. I said so? He says , well I don't know how to say this........ I say the best way is to be upfront. He says the realeator told him he won't sell the house cause of the junk yard next door. Says she thinks I'm doin something illegal over there. He says he will help me move this stuff and store it till his house sells. I said, why would I want to start off pissing the new neighbor off by dropping my stuff off in the yard? Besides, I have been here for 32 years. Get used to it.
I have my 48 F1 in the pole barn and my 37 Ford. Outside I have neatly stored my son inlaws 54 chevy truck and the parts and my buddies open car hauler. So I told the dink that he wasn't going to sell anything at the overly inflated price he has it listed for. Also, if I heard anything about this "junk yard" I would sue him and the realeator for slander, libel and deffematon of character. He says he is having a open house on the weekend and hoped it would be cleaned up. I said SEE YA!
As circumstances would have it one of my buddies just bout a 29 roadster with a hemi and wanted me to help him pick it up. Yup, you guessed it. Truck, trailer, 29 roadster, 5 more buddies driving different vehicles, and not to mention the pile of empties. What an open house!!!!!!!!
The place is still for sale.

I had a similar problem, and I do live out in the woods. A local County Puke stopped and flashed his card in my face telling me to move that pile of junk or he would have it towed. The pile of junk was a 42 Dodge Cabover engine truck, complete, clean and minding it's own business under my carport. I checked the county codes and found out I could store non-running vehicles if they were behind a 6' tall fence. I went down to HD and bought four 6' tall fence panels and leaned one up against front, rear and both sides. When the Puke came back I smiled and gave him a copy of the ordinance. He vowed to return with a tow truck. Meanwhile, I also found out any vehicle with a current license plate can be stored with or without a fence, in any condition so long as the plate is current and for the vehicle being stored. I went down got a plate and put it on the truck. He returned with a wrecker. I pointed to the plate and told him to get the FUCK out of my yard before I set the dogs on him. He ordered the wrecker to tow the truck, but the driver said he coulnd't touch it, it had a plate and was behind a fence........stand up against the Barney Fife's of the world! I wrote the County Attorney complaining of harrassment and haven't had any problems since, great!!

I live in a relatively new subdivision...houses are still being built around me...I just make sure the Model A is parked in the driveway when the realtor comes by....lots of neighbors only had a problem with the fucktard that lives kiddy corner from me...I was trying to break in the cam on my coupe on a Sundaythis past summer...6:00 pm...and I get the "That's enough!" yell from the other side of their trees blocking their house...it was the guy's wife bitchin...the guy seems okay, other than the fact that he mows his lawn every half hour...her on the other hand, I'd like to take out back and bash her in the face with a shovel...I've always heard that you can always tell the guy that's got a bitch for a wife or that they don't get along cuz their goddamn lawn is immaculate....

  25. Hey Matt, that is some cool lawn art... and it'll be a cool project from the looks of it too.

I like to keep my neighbours happy, keeps them from having an excuse to look too close. ;)

One side of me I've got the asshole junkyard crackhead, wasteland backyard, 4 cars on blocks in the driveway, 5 more cars parked on the street (I've vented about that here before). Every neighbour on the block talks about that house and "what must go on in there" . They are under a microscope.

Don't want any hassles? Keep your neighbours happy.

I get along great with my wife, and our yard looks like it gets cut once in a while. Years ago when we had a bit of a rough spell, the yard was very nice indeed. Never thought about that......I'm gonna sell my lawn mowers right away to make sure my marriage stays solid!:D

The stuff you guys talk about sounds totally fine to me....I'd think I lived in a good neighborhood if it was full of motorheads that didn't tune their race cars at midnight.

where i live some idiot has this beat up old horse drawn wagon on his yard. the thing is literaly falling apart (imagine a heap of rotten wood with wheels) it must be some kind of lawn ornimant.

my question is if he can have that thing out on his lawn on a busy street that why cant i put old cars in much better condition on my lawn ( and i live on a little side street) maybe i should and then if the city wants it gone ill just call it lawn art:D
