It does pretty good. I really only have the slow moving vehicle magnet on there because I had it from my days of vw buses (which are a target for vehicles driving up too fast and slamming into the back of them). I figured it did more good on my 40 than sitting on the fridge like it had been for a couple years so I stuck it to the back. Figured it couldn't hurt to have the sign on there. Admittedly I have not been on the highway yet but I have gotten it up to 70ish and it seems it would do fine at a constant 65. I do have some speed parts (4" crank, isky max 1, dual carbs etc) so it is kind of peppy. Me too! I have had a lot of old cars and this one may be my favorite so far. VOH, All of my suspension and brake parts came from Posies. Super happy with them so far. The guys there are super helpful too the few times ive called with questions or issues.
That's fair but you have to understand the 39 headlights are THE reason I am into these cars. Long story but one day for about .0001 seconds, I caught out of the corner of my eye a headlight go down the road and I was like "I have to figure out what that was, it's so cool!" I did not see any part of the car (perhaps I did see the rest of the car but all I could think about was that damn headlight) other than the last second glimpse of the headlight. Well, after a few months with that on my brain and trying to figure out what the car was, I settled on the fact that it was a 37-39 ford. That lead me on a 2 year search looking for a 37 which ultimately lead me to this car. I "compromised" on the headlights because the rest of the car was EXACTLY how I like them and I figured I could put the 39 lights in, which I did. This car was complete, had the patina I love, it was not molested etc. So while I respectfully disagree, I understand your point!
I did not mean any disrespect but i have 2 39 fords and the changed both to 40 because the 39 were not very bright at night. I see that your useing 40 buckets 39 lens and rings. What i said is my opinion only. Sorry if i offender you.
oh no! Absolutely no offense taken! I definitely didn’t take it that way! You’re gonna have to make fun of my wife or maybe my kids to actually offend me! If you saw how bright the lights I installed were you would see they have all the brightness of modern lights with the look of old! They are almost too bright! I’ll see if I can get a night time photo with them on. I used an aftermarket kit with h4 bulbs and they are rockin! I used these https://cwmoss.com/products/quartz-...6e08cd7450cbbdddc64c6cf2e8891f6d48747c6d56d2c
Got bored yesterday so I cruised over to an old timers yard to see if he might have a front bumper. He did so then I got motivated to install them last night. The front was a bitch as it’s clearly tweaked so putting it together was a challenge. Hard to see in the photos but I think the brackets are bent so I ordered new ones. The passenger side looks super cool pushed in towards the body but the driver side looks out of wack as it sits where it should. Anyway, I have new brackets coming. I didn’t even try to clean up the rear. I left the flaking chrome as is (and some blew off on my first drive just now. lol). what do yall think? Bumpers or no? I’m undecided. I wish they didn’t stick out so far but I may try and trim the brackets (or make new ones) that pulls them into the body.
I like bumpers on '40's. The brackets are spring steel and thus very difficult to re-drill to suck in the bumpers. Best done on a mill vs a drill press but if you are patient it can be done. There is a filler "gravel panel" available for the rear that takes up some of the gap visually and keeps rocks thrown from the rear tires from hitting the inside of the bumper and flinging back up and chipping the trunk lid. I have one for my build and will be using it. Pic from web: EDIT: Forgot to mention there are two different front brackets. The one for Deluxe is longer to clear the more protruding grille, the one for the standard is about 2" shorter. Standard on a Deluxe will pull in the bumper, but obviously you have a standard and need the shorter ones to begin with. Top is standard, bottom deluxe. These are a bit bent but you get the idea.
I love the look of the bumpers on your car. I sucked the rear in on my 39 1.5" as I didn't like how far out they stuck. I will be doing the same to the front as well. Car is looking fantastic.
Check out what Moriarity did with the bumpers on his '40 coupe. He moved the bumpers in and it looks great...
till today. left me stranded. Now won’t start. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=340461
Looks like you got it running, any further issues? @Drylake had some issues he overcame with the E-fire.
ha of course there’s still issues! I thought the rotor just got off its axis but today I got less than a mile on first drive since breakdown and it quit again. The rotor metal was completely ripped off from the rotor body. I was going to replace the rotor and cap anyway when new parts came but now I have no choice! lol. Lesson learned. Should have put new rotor in before test driving. Now off to find a ford distributor. Oh, and I think I need a different radiator. Anyone have recommendations?
Definitely with bumpers. I tucked the front and rear on my sedan. Front I made new ones using flat bar stock, rear I tweaked and redrilled, which went fine. Tucked both about 2-3 inches, also dropped the front one. First three pics are front, last two rear.

Been driving all summer and put about 1000 miles on her. Time to take it off the road and get ready for the final part of the project. Details and interior! The car is scheduled to go to the interior shop in mid January. When I get it back, I want it to be DONE so I started to focus on more details. The firewall has a ton of holes I don’t need but when I put it all together, I didn’t know which holes I needed and which I could eliminate. Now I know so I’m working to clean up the firewall and weld up all the unused holes. A lot of them were from the gas heater I won’t be re installing. anyway, I also sound insulated the full interior with kilmat. I might do another layer as it didn’t make it much quieter and the car is quite loud still. Hoping the interior helps that a lot too. I will also do a 1000 mile once over and re check every nut and bolt and adjust all the brakes, bleed them again etc. since every nut and bolt was touched and removed/replaced, I want to make sure it safe and I didn’t miss something so it will get a full once over. I pulled the engine to fix the firewall and to fix a leak coming from the front. After inspection, I actually think only my distributor gasket is leaking and everything else is dry. It needs a good detail along with the frame and everything else. Anyway, that’s where I’m at. Been a fun journey. 2 years since I purchased and I’m far ahead of where I thought I’d be. the green stickers are holes I’m keeping.
Looking good. Do you have one of the covers that attach to the firewall where the harness splits? It helps clean up the wiring a little.
yes I have this piece but the new wires seem fatter so I need to make a spacer so it will fit. Every time I try to install it as is, the electrical goes wonky cause the new wiring seems to be fatter. I replaced the cap and rotor and all has been good since. I also added an electric fan for when sitting at idle on the hottest of days. got it off jack stands today. Drove around the block. It’s running like shit. Backfiring, not great power, etc. Haha. I guess I’ll look into it after the holiday. I probably need to tune the carbs.
