So as im halfway through my senior year of highschool I got into sell mode of all my stuff. I had for sale my 66 chevy biscayne 2dr. So long story short the guy i bought the 66 from wanted it back, and wanted to trade for his 51 chopped merc. So now i have another early 50's kustom underway. Hope yall enjoy the pics.

Here is a few pics. I have 4 front fenders, and hood. I have rear quarters but the bottom edges are kinda ruff so i will buy full replacements.

Looks like a pretty good start on the chop already. Quarters can be rather pricey or are you using glass?

Nice chop shape. A '51 with a '49 - '50 rear window is the ultimate combination in my opinion. i Much prefer the longer '51 rear fender shape. Good luck with it!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. The chop is rather nice, I don't know the exact height taken out in inches off hand. And the rear window is a 49 merc window. My plans are to build plane and simple Mercury with skirts, appletons, and floater grill bar.

I have original quarters, and then another set of OG steel ones that are workable. So im undecided yet about quarters, but i preffer steel ones.

It would be a good idea to primer your metal after you strip it , you don't want surface rust coming back, also if you can smell gasoline odor from your tank it's still explosive, if you weld or grind around the filler or vent cover them with a damp rag .......have fun and be safe....

This is how i am planning to do mine. A clean and simple 51. Just like Walley Welch's mercury.

  17. I'm impressed they left the drip rails. Not an easy task. To me without the drip rails they just never look right. Now would be a good time to consider a steering and brake up grade. I just did this to mine, took about 6 hours.

I would like to keep it mostly stock for the chassis. Except lowered. And i like ut either way with or without drip rails.

Thanks guys. The drip rails just ad the complete look, and class.
My plan of attack as soon as the temperature here in Wisconsin gets above -10 I will do the sheet metal floor, rockers, and bottom of the quarters. Then roll the chassis out from under, and sand blast the frame and paint it and run all lines.

  23. Looks like a pretty solid car. All I dreamed about in high school was a chopped Merc....took me 'til my 40's to get one. ;)

Where in Wisconsin are you? I grew up in Neenah. Glad I don't still live there as I look at your weather this week. ;)
