Cool Bel Air. I love Chevy X frames! In my eyes the lower they get the longer they get and that's a good thing, especialy because the taller sedan roof fights that. A lighter two tone roof will help that too. If you can track down the factory C pilar divider trim it would be nice and clean. I think these look great on chrome reverse or supremes but that might not be in the budget. I like the baby moons. Skinny white walls are the way to go, WW look wrong era wise and it might be a personal thing but I HATE skirts on these. It just doesn't work for me but the low low guys love them. I've always kind of wanted to embrace the lower trim level 4dr thing and build one that looks like someone customized a fleet car. Lower it and deck it out with police antennas ala undercover car or a company logo or civil defence logos or something. Might work, might not.
Hey Bugs! Glad you decided to get the old girl. If you make out to Jay's and need to check wind resistance keep on coming this way, ha!
Yeah...I think just drop it a bit more and call it good. Plus, that's one less thing to spend any dough on. I'm trying to keep it on the cheap. Mike...I do want to come to your new pad!! This will be a bit more cush of a ride for us than the roadster but not sure that she's do as well in the pasture!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
I'm kind of thinking about three bar spinner caps with beauty rings whith the thin whites.....I love Astro Supremes but those would be worth more than the entire car!
Hey man. What about doing some kind of candy fade on the wheels with some chrome lug nuts? Just thinking out loud...
Well if your gonna get fancy with the wheels I'll come lace panel the roof with rattle cans for ya. We won't tell anyone it came out of a can.
Jay, You are correct in that my ADD has kicked in as per usual!! But I have managed to get the carb rebuilt and now I'm going to do a major tune up on it just to be safe. It does run well but I just want to go through as much of the basic stuff as I can while I'm at it. My goal is to make it reliable as I can. Also, I've been going back and forth in my mind as to what I really want to do with this car. Based off of suggestions here and elsewhere, I think that I need to just keep it super simple and not get carried away. I don't want to ruin the car or sink a ton into it or have it tore apart for the whole summer (my usual way). So what I've decided is to get it dialed in mechanically and start driving it. Then I will lower it a couple of inches and slap on dual exhaust (maybe Bell flowers) but have decided against lake pipes. Patch a couple of holes in the floor and put in carpet and cover the seats. The last thing I will do is fix the rust and do a simple repaint. I will probably shoot the roof a lighter color. I will throw in some sounds at some point as well. That's it. I've had all kinds of crazy ideas for this but none of it is needed and would ruin the car for what it is and what I want it for. One of the other things that I'm going to do pretty quick is turn the tires around to show the skinny whites and I'm really thinking about some spinner caps from an Impala. I'd love some Astro Supremes but again...that's too much for this car . Here's some caps I'm thinking about......
I like the idea of this project, I'd leave it this color, maybe a pewter color roof and wheels with no caps. Blackwalls out and dropped like you said with a 1" rubber rake. Like you said make the engine dead reliable, good tunes, and the trunk is big enough to cary tools, an extra of every switch, pump, gasket, etc. on the whole car! I'd like one similar with a straight 6 built as a daily. I like you're idea of towing the hot rod with it, so that would have to happen! Either way cool little family project keep us posted! Oh yeah maybe look into new door and window seals as it will make the ride alot more comfortable!
Man....I have the 4 doors....now I just need some friends!! HA! Thanks, Man! I agree about the door and window rubber. That's on the list too. It is amazing what a difference that can make! I'm pretty excited about the car, I just need to keep focused on it and not get too carried away. It would be easy to get too much time and money tied up into something like this. I have to learn to do the minimum and just drive it!!
I personally always liked the '63's. If I can find one, I'd probably restomod the car with a 5.3L V8, an automatic overdrive, front disc brakes and A/C. I need to get one of my Studebakers done first though.
Well, Jay...as you know, I did get off my ass and get her running right! New fuel and water pumps, intake gasket, carb rebuilt.....I even painted the valve covers and intake. I heard that adds at least 3 more hp. So, I did all of this and even vacuumed her out. It runs and drives pretty damn good. I still need to go through the AC to see what it needs. The good thing is that it's all there.
