Yes, shave the vents and nose and deck it...you've chopped the top, now make it smooth...fill the vent, do not sink it... Early Caddy bumpers were large and heavy, I suggest something a bit more trim...maybe '56 Chevy or along those lines. I wasn't in favor of a chop on that car, but you've pulled it off and it looks good... Black paint will tend to shorten the car...use a brighter color to lengthen it...its' a CADDY after all...!!! R-
You're about five months tooooooo late there 6t5Fairlane...you should read from the beginning...LOL Grunion, as much as I hate red...it's a better choice than black and it's YOUR car... R-
Maybe a brandywine or something a little richer than just candy red. Other than that you seem to be right on track...
thanks for the photo chop I like it. today is the first day I have seen it my computer doesnt always load from this site good.
nose it, no, that's a pretty classy car, the chrome would look great on it if you paint it black. In the picture the bumper looks like it sticks out pretty far, I might suck it in an inch or two or even reshape it so it flows better with the shape of the body. I think sinkin' that side vent flush would look really good.
Grunion go for it, black will give the Caddy so much class. A friend of mine has a saying: "My two favorite colors are black and chrome" Jerry Gaskill. Black was made for Cadillac's and it's the best choice............ I've had eight cars and they were all black, friends know if I buy any other color it won't last long. CRUISER
No problem. I´d use the OG grille too - I just thought maybe you didn´t have it. I think I´d leave plenty of chrome on the car - its a Caddy - it needs a bit of shine and some detail. Flushing in the hood grilles sounds like a good plan. Car is looking great. Now I feel like a jerk for voting no chop!
Well, since you are asking for opinions.. Now the the top has been slimmed down, the hood looks rather massive.. or maybe it's just the angle of this pic. I'd think about maybe doing a wedge shape section on the hood, from nothing at the cowl to an inch or two on the front. You obviously have the skills to pull it off, nice work so far. And leave the wires on it.. and paint it dark purple.. Lee Pratt style. Brian
Please do not pie-cut the hood. Well if you want to go for a nose down hot rod look you can do that. But if you want to go for an custom tail dragging or level stance.. then a pie-cut hood will not look good. Take a close look at all the early Ayala, Barris, and Westergard cars... and even the 36 Ford that `Robert Wiliams painted.. all have the nose way up in the air for an ultimate speed boat stance. These cars look fabulous with a high nose... sectioning will only work if you do the whole body.... but of coars this is only my opinion.
Yeah I am definitely torn on the hood The pic out front of my shop is the only pic I have that i don't like of my car and it is the hood that is killing it. It definitely looks good in that photo chop. But its a 50/50 deal at the moment. When I talked to Rick Dore about it he suggested a chrome trim to split the hood and carry it down the side of the body and not to cut it. And I asked Kieth Dean a while ago and he said definitely cut it. When I first bought the car my original thought was to cut it so I will probally have to go with that. You guys are great help I love hearing opinions, and ideas. Oh and the wires are staying for now they are skylark originals. I might end up with some cadi ones one day and then I would switch them.
I agree, if it was done 40's early fifties style, with the nose higher. But, with the level stance, it just looks to "bulbous" to me.. but it definitely does not need sectioned to the point where it slants down to the front (street rod style). Maybe just take some of the crown out of the very front.. but that would probably be hard to pull off. But that's just my opinion too. Brian
That's some bitchin artwork! Grunion Milk Co! That's some funny shit,LOL!!!! As far as the color goes,I think dark colors look the best on Customs. Also,I think it would be hard to improve on the front end of most Caddys. With the exception of frenching the headlights. Love your progress on the car,and I truely believe it will be a extemely talked about car...
Ahhh, there that good old hot rod attitude is. The best reason to do ANYTHING is to piss some people off. That will be a hard car to get right and an easy one to screw up. IF you do it right, you'll be a hero. If not you'll be a zero. I'll stay tuned...
