Here's some pics of my new project. I'm really excited about it. I bought it from a friend of mine who couldn't finish it. He chopped the top and we put a in a rear window from a '41 ford sedan. It needs a lot of finishing. Anyway, after I put in a windshield, I can drive it while I'm working on it.
damn looks good, a chopped hardtop, not a whole lotta them around i like how the beltline was kept all the way around the roof and not lost at the rear window
there is a guy who had his 54 windshield chopped by a guy about an hour from here, so I'm gonna give him a call. said he cuts the original windshield, if that doesn't work I'll use lexan. It already has a Mustang II frontend, nova rear, 283, auto trans. My buddy made it into a hardtop. It did have the posts.
Thats the 1st thing i look at is the belt line on these cause i see sooo many get screwed up in that area and throughs the body lines of the car/chop off esp w/shiney paint. But the chop seems to flow pretty nice yours and the 41 Ford window gives a 'carson top' appreal to it. It looks like a pretty good start and will be def. kool when you get it to where you want. It already has the right attitude!!
If you are having a problem getting your windshield cut, get in touch with Tony here on the HAMB. He had a local guy do his and it turned out beautifully. He had nothing but good things to sat aboutthe glass guy.
The guy's name is Kevin and the name of the shop he own's is called Pleasant View Glass. Phone number 585-889-3753 He's located in the Rochester area. He's quite a way's away from where you are, but i will say first hand he's damn good at what he does and i highly recommend him. He's the only guy i use for all my automotive glass needs, hot rod, custom or 'civilian' He chopped 5" out of the windshield of my 53 chevy on the first shot..came out perfect. Your car look's cool. Looking forward to seeing it as it progresses. Tony
If you were closer ,i would show you how to cut down a 53-54 windshield .Its a snap if you have a pressurized sand blaster ,and a few bags of sugar sand ,and a few rolls of duct tape .
Rob Paul, no this was not a HT car, the B pillars have been removed. satan, I've heard of people doing it that way and they said it works out good. I'll try it if this guy does not come through.
Was there any reinforcement done to make up for the loss of the be pillars?? If not, you might want to check the 'bracing' of a hardtop/convert just behind the doors down to the floors and across to the drive shaft tunnel.
