Well it’s been about 6 weeks since I traded my blue flattie sedan plus some green for my new 39 deluxe coupe . . Drove the “ol girl” blue 40. 733 miles to the Frog Follies in Evansville Ind. My kinda gathering over 2500 cars and all must be 1948 and older , (love all old cars but because of my age 76 and the stories my long gone dad used to tell me about all his 32s and 40 fords he owned while growing up in West - by -God Virginia ) Put the for sale signs on her (no phone number dah! Wasn’t thinking ) as I wondered thru all the old iron from flat out show cars to tradional builds in all stages and styles years and makes , Talked to a couple people about cars for sale or ones I liked there changes and style , I was like a kid in a candy store ! So I come across the black 39 deluxe coupe , admiring it told owner after seeing the for sale on it , “ I’m not a buyer have my blue 40 flattie sedan for sale have to sell it before I can buy something but if I it sells I’ll be back to talk to you . So a couple of my new friends that took me under there wing , ( drove the flattie the 733 miles to the hotel but was worried about finding the fairground 15 miles from the hotel ! ) they let me fall into there line of beautiful hot rods to get there so between them and my friend Dale Caulfield Weedetr street Rod components owner suggest “ ask if he’d consider a trade ! Owner said him and his dad already had looked over my sedan ( lucky for me ) and appreciated how nice it was .So that started the negotiation and our deal was struck ! He took the sedan to Ky and I drove my unproven all FORD 39 Ky car same owner over 40yrs ,sold to my trade guy a yr ago , After deal was struck seller said “ my friend ask me to try to sell it to someone that appreciates it and will take care of it and I think I found that guy , I said yes you did, loved my sedan but a black coupe all FORD a plus but what I was searching for 8 yrs ago but couldn’t seem to find one I liked or could afford . So it ran out good but 750 miles to the house with no fuel gauge or speedo in an unfamiliar car was a tad shaky . “BUT GOD “ had his hand on me ran into Gods hand of protection and help before I ever even got out of Ky . Weak battery , young man went out of his way, took the ol battery out from under the seat drove me in his truck 20 minutes or so to get a new battery , brought me back installed it then insisted in changing out the see thru fuel filter and even being diligent enough to put one of my shop towels under neath ,worried about getting a tad of gas on my 302!, I’ve called him since he lost his dad when he was 11 I told him “ you are making your dad proud “Running better starting easier Jarad insisted I follow him to his exit about 20 miles the way I was heading , worried if I might have a problem , no other problem to the house , So I’ll be getting the new vintage 39 gauges installed as well as the new correct gas tank within next couple weeks , So on the hunt for some nicer handles or new for door , inside and out , window cranks as well as a 39 deluxe trunk assembly to replace the 1940 one on it now plus a radio delete plate . Any one have any or know any friends that have any they are selling I’d be greatly appreciative , or trade for some of my small 1940 parts I’ll be putting up for sale . So thanks hope I don’t bore to many with my long explanation! Thanks and God bless and save America. 2. Really like the new Coupe. So do I understand your story right, you traded the '40 Sedan for the '39 Coupe ? Both look like nice cars but these days I am leaning towards the Coupes as well. I am looking to sell my Model A Coupe and buy a '39/'40 Coupe. Your new Coupe looks about perfect !

Nice coupe! The group you happen to hook up with at the hotel was the one I usually run with…….
I didn’t make it to the Follies this year and when my friends told me the story of meeting you and showing me a photo of your sedan I told them I was familiar with it as I had seen it numerous times on the HAMB in multiple threads.
Small world Dennis, enjoy your new to you ride and I’ll let Larry,Brian and the rest know I saw the thread where you’re showing all your new wheels.

Ric, yep had put my sedan up for sale about a year ago originally precautionary cause of my 2 lymph node cancer surgeries in case I didn’t do well . God brought me thru with flying colors , Still working on strength and stamina but thinking I’m not doing enough at 76 to help that ! So wanted the adventure similar to my trip in 2020 to the 40 ford 80 yr birthday gathering in Crane Mo. put on by Brett did that 2100 mile round trip in the flattie so thought I’d give this a shot thinking maybe run into a serious buyer, so glad I did , this coupe I would consider my dream car or the kind I’m always drawn to and save pictures of when I look , So to run into someone that liked my sedan enough to make a fair trade +plus some cash there way made my day .yep would do it again tomorrow, have some details and mechanicals to change up to my expectations but to me already proven road car with the 750 or so miles back to the house in my 302 ,c4 8”rear ac ps 39 .im a man of faith a lot of people don’t consider there standing with God ,think about where they will spend eternity “ where ya gonna live after you die ? “ or believe that God is concerned with the desires of our heart , I’m not one of those , God change the direction of my life in 1979 , l honestly felt something from the Lord when me and the seller started discussing the deal ! Some people might say sure you did but if you don’t have a relationship with our creator they can’t begin to understand his love for us although it’s as obvious as the nose on our face . Again thanks for your reply and keep at it I’m sure the right deal is out there for you as well mine took I think over a year and said all forget it a few times ! Take care .

Congratulations. To my eye, the '39 DeLuxe coupe is the very best execution of the entire '39-'40 series.

^^^^^ There’s a good chance you have a 40 trunk lid on your car with that trunk handle.
There appears to be a few 39 handles on eBay now. Check the HAMB classifieds also……
Not sure if Drake has any available…..

    Wow. Happy for you.
That's one way to turn a sedan into a coupe.
