Paid for this a couple weeks ago and just picked it up this past weekend. Its an unkown year model A with no roof or deck lid. Was on the road from 4am til 2am the next day all the way from the panhandle down to the south of Florida (towed this thing home with a Saturn that won't die). The drive and time was worth it. Paid $775 for it. I only saw some small pictures of it on craigslist but said I'd take it and parted with some stuff so I could afford it. I took a chance and it is in pretty good shape. My luck with model a frames continues, this one so far from what I can tell has a nerfed up drivers side frame horn. Subrails are pretty good, going to need some creative patching in areas. It is going to need lower cowl patches, some rear patches and the inner fenders patched as well as the doors. Good thing patches are available for all of those areas. As for the no roof thing, unless I can find one cheap I'm probably just going to follow the top most line around with a sawzall and grinder and make it look pretty and just run the car topless. It is Florida, it never rains here. My plan of attack is to get the thing braced up as without a roof or any cross pieces of metal on the rear other than a piece of sheet that was screwed on, it wobbles really bad. Once that is done I can get it off the frame so I can get that built up and rolling. Hopefully I can find somewhere to fix the frame horn and check that its all straight. I am well aware I look crazy to my family for bringing this thing home but I see what it will look like in the end and that is all I have to say to anyone that questions me. The best part of the car is it came with some free scorpions too although I think they probably jumped ship somewhere between here and the panhandle. You will be missed little buddies! The inspirational part was stopping at gas stations the old clunker had people stopping to check it out even in its state so I can only imagine what will happen when its done. Or they were amazed that it was being towed by the car that it was. Either way its got me in gear to get it built.
Did that car come out of Madison Florida? If so, I knew the previous owner. Guy named Ken who passed on a couple years ago.
Nice find. Road trips are fun. Surely thats not how you drove back home ? That trailer and a few bungy straps
775? for a rusty old car??? shitload of work to do, get away from that as soon as possible!! i tell ya what drive up here to missouri and il give you your money back so your only out gas money and a little time. sound good? im doing you a favor trust me
It IS a 28-29 Ford Model A Coupe with the top cut off. The radiator shell looks like a 30 or 31 which is too tall for the cowl of the body and the hood is a 28-29 strapped down over the shell and not touching the cowl top.
Billetproof one day, tearing into an A the next - I sadly think the transmission is a bit borked. Whats left on the frame will be stripped off during the week. And what is left of the body off the frame. The subrail looks ok, I will try and cobble it back together the best I can and get that solid, just need to figure how exactly it is sill hanging onto the body. And the body itself will need lots of work over time. Do the inner fender patches normally fill in along where mine are rusting free or will I have to get creative with some sheet metal along with the patches?
