This 1942 Chris-Craft 16' Deluxe Utility is seriously for sale at $15,000. I have receipts for over $22,000 in hull restoration alone!

An Amphi is on my short list too. Before BJ last year the best Amphi in the country could be had for about 65,000.00. Then, one sold at BJ for over 100,000.00 and now everyone is trying to cash in. They will come back down in price.

PAPASMURF, trust me, you got a great deal on that boat! i saw it advertised and glad you got it! that boats worth three times that amount!

bobby green , lucky, and i are in an unofficial so-cal fiberglass boat club...we havent thought of a name though.....thinking of something along the line of THEMCREEPERSHIFTER BOAT CLUB OF SO-CAL

i have a 1959 super hydro boat made by the hydroglass company.
the rear resembles a 56-57 caddy barritz.

  6. Shiftymutt was trying to get one from up in northern cal that a guy was GIVING away! Don't know if he ever got it though. He said the back looked like a '57 Chevy.

    Way cool!

I work in the Marine supply biz and sold a bunch of stuff to a guy with a boat alot like yours. His engine was dead so he gutted it to save weight and installed a engine/pump from a jetski of some sort hidden below the deck.

I'm totally hooked on those old boats. Ever since I saw Luckys boat and then Bobby had his all setup, (Where are we going out BTW!!!???) I looked for one and found an old one cheap and have had a damn blast fixin it up and tearin around in it. I wouldnt go so far as to say its restored, but its just a reliable boat that hasnt sunk yet, that I get tons of compliments on whenever I take it out. Even towed a 20ft jet boat in once from the middle of the lake. :) Had to tell the guy a 48 year old boat just rescued him. Pretty damn funny.

    Wow!

I tried to talk my sister into buying one about ten years ago...it was in pretty good shape missing the engine and decklid. Was seven or eight hundred dollars.

That is pretty slick! Good find. I was up at Flathead lake about a month or so ago and helped tow one that looked just like that. This poor guy took his wife and kids out on it and ended up stranded....without a paddle. Anyhow, it was a true jalopy boat and his wife and kids were having a blast, up til' the point that they needed a tow.

Glad to see someone posted a pic of an Amphicar...have a buddy that has one - he has actually taken it out on the water too!

I just rolled in the yard from picking this baby up from Joel in MD a few minutes ago. I have wanted one of these since I was a kid (there's your queue Dave!) and I can't believe I found one with a hemi in it!
It's a '65 18' Stevens with a 331 hemi. It's supposed to be pretty much how the original owner built it. There's a few things that need to be done so I don't think I'll get it in the water this year, but watch out MA next year! :D LSM

I almost grabbed 2 wood boats off of ebay in the past week but my grandfather told me to hold off, they looked like they needed more than i could put into them right now. Check out Penn Yan as well for nice old boats.

Here's mine, a 1967 Renken, I bought last year. The motor is a 1967 Chrysler 55hp that my Dad bought New in 67 for my Grandpa's boat. It's only been used a couple of seasons. This picture was from last week we were on vacation near Ceder Point, Lake Erie, had a blast!

LeadSled - you always find the cool stuff don't you?? - hahaha nice boat though.

I might buy this old POS. - It's my landlords and he is going to let me use it for free for a while to see how I like it.

Not really sure on the year...I'm assuming in the 70's by the windshield design ( I lied - I found one in some flordia classifieds that looks exactly like this one and They have it listed as a "1963 14ft Starcraft Arrow Run" - Now i'm getting excited...it's even traditional Motor and all!!!!!!!!!!!). It is a 14 Foot StarCraft Hull. It needs to be painted. Wood Floor Needs to be replaced. Stern Wood needs to be replaced and re-glassed. New Seats & New Cable Rack Steering.

1964 Evinrude Big Twin 40Horse - that runs amazing. (supposedly rebuilt 3 years ago. not sure but it runs and sounds good. (says he paid $500 for the motor alrealy rebuilt)

Tilt Trailer that I had to do a little work to, so that it would be safe on the road. (but had new wheels and tires on it)

     No ID numbers on the Hull - Anybody got an oly 14' StarCraft Hull ID tag??? or something for an older 14" boat - so that if i do buy it I can get it registered?

I could probably own it for cheap - as in $200 or less (think its worth it?)

For $200 it's worth it just for the motor. Becareful with having a rotten transom and floor. That can become a real terror to fix. If the wood is all mush now, you'll have to cut out and rebuild/reglass the whole thing. If your into it, not a huge deal but it's an undertaking. Hell if nothing else, keep the motor and trailer and find a solid dry hull for next to nothing!

Here is mine from Labor Day,

I'm pretty sure that all the wood is rotted in it. I figured the motor, trailer, steering, and seats are worth what I can get it for. It looks pretty simple to replace the wood - other than the "fiberglass part" - never done that before...but I can learn. Now that I found out it is a 1963 - I kinda like it more, & almost think that it is worth fixing since it is old ( i really wanted a '65 CorrectCraft Mustang with the 289 Inboard. I know somebod that has one with a seized up motor - but he won't sell it to me...I bug him everytime im over his house to sell it to me.)

    Here is my main concern:
It's kinda hard to see....but back here there is what looks to be plywood..or whatever they used when building these inbetween the hull and the top "hat" part of the boat. That piece of wood appears to be "wet" and has a little moss growing on it for visual effect.

If the wood is all rotten - is it safe to put in the water. The boat doesn't leak and my land lord has used it quite a bit. But will the boat float ok? or is this thing going to sink on me if I get halfway out into a lake. or the back of the boat going to break of with the motor still attached.
Guess i just don't want the think to break of the back of the boat and sink my arse

I'm going on vacation to MooseHead Lake, ME in 2 weeks and would like to bring this with me as renting a boat is $350/day up there (and this is free for now). I just want to putz around and go fishing...I won't be sking or anything. then when I get back I can cut it open to re-do the wood?

Think i'll be ok? or should i not trust it?

oh and that's a nice family picture you got there Aaron

A quick test is to put the engine into the Tilt position, on the trailer and push down on the engine at the prop. Does the transom flex? Or can you pick up the tounge of the trailer. If the transom flexes it's not safe. If the wood is mulch (rotten) then all you have is the thin fiberglass holding up the motor. It will float, that is what the fiberglass does, the wood is the strength. Now if you were to just putts around you would most likley be fine, but if your doing hole shots or hitting waves/wake, I'd be sure to have a life jacket close by!

It doesn't flex (it might a little - but it isn't noticable.)
I would probably take the motor off the boat while tralier up to ME as there is a lot of stress with that motor bouncing around on the transom over the road like that.

I plan on testing this thing on Saturday in a local pond/lake to be sure. if it all checks out then I will probably take it.

Oh and I always wear a life jacket - all the time - never know what could happen.

    Thanks!

Edit: I really don't think that I want to be hitting/jump wakes and waves in a 14ft boat...seems like it would get real squirly on me - kinda like a short wheelbase car headed down the strip.
And I would pull any holeshots for fear of breaking something that isn't mine (well yet anyway..we'll see how much I like it once I try it out.)

For the price you cant go wrong. I finally got my little red 15 footer out on the river this weekend. It did suprisingly well. I didnt really no what to expect, but it floated and ran great. I have to do a little adjusting with the carb settings, but its getting colder and I guess I have all winter to mess with it. Now I need to get back to work on my 49 ford if I ever plan on getting it on the road! Too many toys, not enough time.
