My new hot rod, my old truck...and a severe case of A.D.D!

Well, as some of you may already know, I sold my old hot rod. I spent a lot of time and energy in that thing, and took it as far(if not further) than I ever thought possible for me. I never thought I would sell it but did, about a month ago. Main reason being I am buying a house soon(Austin or Portland), but there were several others...the three speed and old banjo rearend just couldn't get us moving down the freeway as fast as I would have liked, and changing that stuff out would have been more than I was willing to do. Also, as I came close to completing the ex-sport coupe roadster, my tastes changed. The car was very channeled and I grew to love A's on deuce rails. This project made me feel successful but a little defeated as well...like I put a lot of work into something that I was growing to not be totally satisfied with. Oh well, I learned a bunch about flatheads and really old Ford stuff, then I sold it.
I went about a week before I started having major withdrawals...and bought a '49 Chevy pickup with a 283 and th350, disc brakes, power steering and airbags. I was vulnerable and lonely! It was awesome but the airbags annoyed me and I have a thing for hot rods, so I sold it a couple weeks later.
Which brings me to Sept. 7th, when I finally went and picked up my newest project I had been eyeing since last fall...1930 Ford roadster(a real one this time) with a '32 boxed frame. It has a 1960 Chevy 348 and the rearend has 3.00(I think) gears...it goes like crazy with no effort at all on the freeway, and is pretty quick off the line too. The dash is out of a shoebox and the grill shell is '32 commercial. Headlights are off an old Chevy firetruck. It is a dream to drive and runs cool, no matter what the conditions.
I am just going to enjoy actually getting use out of this car for a while, and will blow it apart, body work and paint it somewhere down the road.

I am going to have to get in touch with choprods...I need to find out what those front brakes are, and the exact vintage of the headlights.

Very, very nice. I guess your decision has been made to move to Austin cause I don't think you want a convert in Portland.

It's a 348, and yes it's one hell of a driver. I think I will re-do the windshield with some deluxe posts, and a new frame and glass. Finish the dash and weld up the gas cap and radiator cap holes. I am going to put a full carpet and interior in it...but keep the plaid like on the seat, I kinda like it and it gives it some character. I am going to continue the 60's theme and push it even further...a hood(just the top, no sides), a top in case of bad weather(Portland), and some bobbed front fenders...maybe. Glad the drivetrain is solid, it runs so nice. All this down the road...love it the way it is. As for the move...we are 75% on Portland. It is not quite as rainy as everyone says(just grayer and dreary-er) and the summers make it worth it.

  26. Sorry you felt you had to sell the roadster Adam...that was one of my favourite cars on here. Sort of an inspirational one for me and my project. Takes a brave mind to move on sometimes and it looks like you've made a good move.

I met you at Pat's last year,
    your sport-roadster was very clean.
The flathead combo is a love/hate relationship,
For freeway only a quickchange, OD tranny, rearend-gearswap can fix.

What tranny is behind the 348?
    That truck looked clean too.

Hope you kept enough extra for your move.

Yes, indeed! I was going to swap all that out but just opted to sell and do something else...and try to pocket a bit. There is a th350 auto behind the 348...now my girlfriend can enjoy driving it too! Maybe be seeing you at Billetproof?

  30. Nice choice; the roadster and truck. Sorry to see the sport-roadster go away, but there are always room for bigger and better things.
