My new parts car is infested with Black Widows

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Scott48F2, Jun 17, 2009.

  1. picked up a parts car to fix up my daily that is infested with black widow spiders and a lot of eggs. The tow truck guy (who was deathly afraid of spiders) told me to bug bomb the car inside and out. He said if i just turned to pressure washer or hose loose on them they will all run to the nearby garage and house.... of course he says this all in ear shot of my wife who hates bugs mor than the damn orkin man. Whats my best line of defense to combat these little critters so i can get the parts i want of the car this weekend?

    thanks a million

  2. Be very careful. There may be some brown recluse spiders there also. The carry staph in their venom. Bad shit. Nearly killed me 2 yaers ago. Brake clean works well when sprayed directly on them. The exterminator I talked to said the best way to kill them is with a rolled up magazine.

I grew up in southern AZ, bought a 21 window vw van once that had sat for 10 years, was full of them. Bug bomb didn't work. Had to crawl through it slowly. Biggest PITA was behind the dash.

can you tarp it off and set off some bug bombs inside it? ..and around it?
or is it already in your garage?..if so bomb the garage too..you wouldnt want to find one in the back of your tool box later on,.. the hard way

  5. Bug bombs don't work because spiders don't groom themselves. They don't lick the poison from their bodies, so bombs have no effect.

what about a bug bomb and a tarp?? or even one of those cheap plastic drop cloths? Just an idea, I dont know from experience.

  7. i was thinking the same thing with bug bombs not working.... i could grab a harbor freight tarp and cover the whole thing its just outside my garage in front of the double door. is there a way to just for bug spray in for a while or maybe some heat?

i say break out the torch set and have some fun

put on your full leathers tape up some gloves to your suit and have at em:eek:

  10. problem is that there everywhere and it a pretty complete car.... full interior and engine compartment. i havent even had a chance to wrench on it yet i just hate to hear my wife tell me over and over again that she fears my safty with the damn spiders....

i got bit by a brown recluse a few years back had a bad reaction hospital told me it must have been a small dosage bite, just had dark purple and brown blood poisoning on top of my hand and half way up my arm

    it sucked

  11. That was my first thought " Burn 'em out"

Surely there something you can put in a pump sprayer and kill them. Google it .

  12. It IS fucked up! The staph in the venom is resistant to antibiotics too.

Thats what did 2 days ago in my model A! What a blast!

  15. I keep hoping to hear of a good remedy for this. That's why I post on these threads, so I might learn how to deal with the little bastards. IF ya get bit, get it looked at ASAP. But, you already know that, huh?

  16. yeah in 90 degree southern California weather that just sounds awesome

i was hoping to just put on my old man Dickie light blue coveralls and pressure was them away or something

i dont think this would work on this guys car(because it sounds like its got an interior and is somewhat of a decent car)..but how about using diesel fuel in a garden sprayer..lightly dust the car inside and out..i know that diesel fuel will flat out fuck em up..it coats their legs and they suffocate (they breathe thru their legs and or "Book Lungs" that the inlets are underneath them)

  18. The lt blue coveralls are the way to go. Tape the sleeves and have someone keep an eye on you. The spiders should be easy to see against the lt blue. Just don't get pissed off when they have to smack you, to kill the spiders.

  19. yeah i got the car for the headliner, dash, and seats (if the covers that are currently on them are hiding some gems)..... havent tore into them to much due to the topic of this post... =(

if i mention the car you guys might have me just light the whole damn thing on fire and walk away.... its kinda sorta OT..... kinda sorta

  20. Do spiders survive cold? If it was winter, it might be the hot set up to take it to the mountains and freeze them.

I pulled a 36 Chevy Suburban in from the desert and it was laced with Blackwidows.
We tarped it and set off 2 bug bombs inside every 6 hours for 2 days.
    I never saw another one.

If you spray poison on the webs the spiders will groom the poison off and die. They don't clean themselves, just the webs.

or fire. always a fun choice.
