My new project 1951 Buick

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by aw1950, Oct 18, 2010.

  1. Yes I have seen tylerdurbans work very nice to say the least . This is where I read the 3 inches is the max on those 3 piece back windows of these Buicks. But I believe I have seen some guys lay them down on even deeper chops . I know the addage less is more but that said it sure is tempting to do a deep chop . I like the mercs and most of them have very aggresive chops . I am going for that look ( Thats the plan anyway ) I think the car is long enough to allow an aggresive chop . We'll see . Andy, PS I am still undecided on the quaterpanel extension of 2 inches . That will make the car appear even longer so I can have a deeper longer slope to the roofline .

  2. The lower the car sits, the more you can get away with chopping it. Thats also worth considering. You´ve certainly seen under construction shots of heavily chopped cars before they´re lowered. Sure looks odd doesn´t it!

i to me its way better than an artist rendering i think he nailed exactly what i wanted to do. he read my mind lol if only he could tell me where i put all the stuff ive lost

  7. I know what you mean about losing stuff. It is like you never had it . I say to myself , idiot , where did you put that ? You just had it 2 minutes ago . Early stages of Alyzhimers ??? LOL!!

  8. Well its been a few weeks and I have been pretty busy on other things that needed to get done . Holidays this week and I was able to squeeze a few days in on the buick . Ever have one of those days where you worked for hours on something and failed to check the most important thing of what your working on . I am talking about doors , I worked like a dog for 4-5 hours trying to get things to align on the drivers side . I thought there had to be something wrong with the A pillar post . Come to find out the bushings were shot in the upper hinge  . As Homer says Doh!!! Anyway back on track . The car is now all aligned front to rear in regaurds to body to frame alignment . As previously mentioned quite a few posts back I though I had it then but I was way off . Its al good now and with the first mockup the fender to hood gaps are looking right on with just some minor tweaking needed . Heres some pictures in the first mockup with the panels being supported by stanchions . Pretty boring I know but some might enjoy the progress . I will get the door back on at some point and then the real fun begins with making up body supports and floors . Cant wait :D

  9. OOPS the pictures didnt load . Here ya go .

    Great work, keep rockin!

  11. Thanks Eric . I see you are making a shitload of progress on yours as well . I am pleased with the work of the last couple days . Andy

  12. the Buick is looking great!!! I'm enjoying watching you create something from nothing.

  13. Thanks Hivolt ,keep coming back every so often . You still driving the wheels off the Ranchero ? Andy...

  14. Got some more done tonight . The reconstruction of the drivers side rear by the wheel well . This is 1/8 plate as it will also make a good jack point if I get a flat.I put the Caprice seat riser in place and it will work out just right . The footwell for the rear seat is 7" below the seatriser main surface. This will be my depth that I put the new floorpans at . 3rd shot is of the new inner rockerpanel I installed last winter .I welded a new return to it (1/8 plate)
More to come . Pics will show the filling of the void and it will be shaped somewhat the same shape of the frame .

  16. looking good man. great progress. How's that clearance on the front wheels. they look a little close now that you got everything together. just asking because of my upcoming chassis swap(if you remember). the count down has begun.

    again, looking great

Go Andy, go! Still looking awesome!

  21. Rocco the clearance is not an issue . The wheels turn full left and right without hitting the fenders . Thanks , Andy

  22. I'm subscribed so I don't miss anything. :)

Yep, driving the Ranchero as much as I can.

  23. Sorry 48 I scraped the rear differential in the spring . It sure made me sick to do so as the car only has 85,000 miles on the odometer . I am sure the rear differential was good . Its probably a new Honda now as we speak . Andy!!

  24. Thats a nice one for sure Rags . Any Pics ???

Great job! I have used this thread as a reference many times. I am finally starting on my 52 roadmaster that is sitting on a mid 70s GM frame. Keep up the great work!
