If I can afford it I will grab the raw material when I find it! Not doing anything else other than finishing the chop on the chevy cab i am doing for a friend, then its full (maybe partial) steam ahead :p on the 47 gonna try and finish the chop this weekend

  2. Well finn thats a great looking stand any gearhead would be proud to have in his shop . It has some good ideas for me . I dont have any access to machine shop tools so I will have to improvise the bearing assembly with something ???

    Thanks!
Only access i have for the machine shop tools is in my work,i've worked with the lathe after working hrs.
Anyway,i guess all the cheap stands doesnt have any kind of bearings or bushings on the stands. So the bearing isnt necessary thing on these, but brass bushing or something is not a bad idea.
That bearing is just my ideas,i wanted it operating smoothly..

i see your still going strong... i've read enough today to motovate me to get back out into the shop and do some tinkering on my '50

  5. Thanks GS motivation by others is something we all need from time to time . Your 50 is a sharp looking coupe . Black is the best on these old cars . I haven't decided on a color yet . Maybe a dark shade of green .

Check out Raphael Green, it was a color option on the 1938 Buicks

  7. Thanks for the suggestion . I am leaning more on the darker greens . In 1994 Ford put out a Midnight Teal Metalic . It was a nice color . I had it on my 51 F-1 truck . There was also a Green that Jag put out that I saw on a chopped 36 Ford coupe that looked some sharp . It was kentucky green or something like that . On the flip side of things Mercedes put out a silver arrow in 2005 that looked excellant on a 32 Ford. Then theres always overdone Black !!!! I am at least a year away from having to worry about paint or color for that matter LOL !!!

  8. Dont read this again . The computer hicupped and put two of the same posts . ??? Thanks for the suggestion . I am leaning more on the darker greens . 9. Well I have found some time for some work on the car . It was a struggle to get the flow of the rear side glass opening right . I fought with it for 2 and a half days then realized the B pillar was twisted to the outside of the car and it and the main body window arch wouldn't line up . Bitch .Word of advise , If something isnt flowing right or fitting right STOP and check everything over , you will probably find the issue that is causing the problem , Case in point my B pillar  . Have it now though and the cardboard template from the other side is almost perfect . Can only see one side at a time anyways . I am probably being to fussy for my own good . Gene Winfield I am not   . Any way you can see the piece of roof that I saved from the 51 coupe thats going to cut down greatly on the filling process . Thats it for now

    Looking good brother.

  11. Thanks jimmy . It feels good to get back at it thats for sure . I should have some half decent progress shots this coming weekend if all goes well .

  12. Well getting some stuff done . In between lifes little interruptions I managed to get the B pillar filler panel at roof filled and welded and also the start to have the roof skin all tied together . I used my english wheel to make the B post filler panel . It works some fast so I have to be carefull when making panels . The large wedge shaped piece is from the donor roof . It sure made things go alot smoother . Hopefully tomorrow will be a big day and I will get alot of stuff filled in . Time will tell . I am hoping to get rid of an 2001 Ram 1500 that I bartered for tomorrow . The guy said he would more than likely be contacting me tomorrow . Heres hopin !!! We've all heard that line before :D
    Andy...

Man I just spent HOURS (3-1/2 to be exact) reading this thread and all I can say is you are without a doubt one crazy SOB! The work you have done is just unbelievable. When I saw what you were starting with I said "This is gonna be good". I was looking at the side profile and I was like "Man this thing is begging to be chopped" then low and behold you start chopping it. I was on the edge of my seat here with my face abut 2" from my monitor just taking it all in. Then you lowered the back and I was like "YES!!". You are making all the right moves. Now I know opinions are like assholes everyone has one but I just have to chime in here. This car not only needs to be sectioned but it deserves to be sectioned. IMHO The only other thing I would do is take a section out of the decklid to bring the lines of the decklid into proportion with the chop. I'm on here all the time and I don't know how I missed this thread but I'm going to be following along from now on to see it finished. Keep up the fantastic work...You crazy SOB:D

PS. I have my fingers crossed that you section it. I know its a lot of work but it will be SO worth it. And if anyone can do it YOU can!
    Jim

  16. Thanks Big Jim , Sectioning has come into and out of my playbook from time to time I will admit . That said , this here chop has been beating me up so to speak and I dont know if I have it in me to get it all buttoned up just to turn around and cut 1 - 2 inches out of her . I can say, there will be more cutting of metal and the trunklid is in the back of my mind . Stay tuned for sure as it is a long winter . Andy..

  17. Well stuffs rolling along pretty good now . I had to attach the rear window frame to the parcel shelf . now I have to make the transition from the back edge of the trunk opening forward to the rear window frame . This will tie in that rear part of the car . The flow is starting to really take shape judging from the two side shots . Day ended when I run out of wire . Damn . Anyway that was a long enough day for me 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM . I am a happy camper :) as the progress this Saturday was a lot more than last  .

  22. Yeah I have been following Steves thread and I saw that resolution to his issue . mine is a little more complex as I have a whole side of the car to deal with as I am running full cruiser skirts . I have a plan for these and will tackle them at a later date . Andy...

Andy did you ever find out if a g body rear end will bolt into the b body chassis? I have one out of a car if you want any measurements,it is definately narrower. The chop is coming along nicely!!

  26. Thanks Doug . You and Rob still at it at Bar X . I havent seen any progress from either builds in a while . I guess thats what happens when others want you to do their cars , your projects get backburnered . I go through the same thing myself . Fitzee can relate I am sure of it . What say you Fitzee ?

Thanks steve . Is the ford going to be a new years resolution to seriousily get back on it ? The Rear diff issue has not been addressed yet . I think that they are 2 inches narrower but where the upper and lower controll arms bolt on is a different story ??? Andy..

I recall hearing or reading at some point that the control arm mounts will work from one to the other but I dont know for certain, I will try to remember to take some pics with measurements this weekend...back on the Ford this weekend, but the tendonitis in my right arm will determin what I do get done. If the weather cooperates I hope to get the blasting of the cowl and floors done over Christmas, I got the chop all done on that Chevy truck cab and its gone back home so nothing to distract me
