That is rad man. Great start to a smooth car. Ooooooohhhhhhh Noooooooo make a "G***errrrrr" out of it. Nose high, hemi power big old blower with a whole bunch carbs on it. You are correct my friend nothing says Custom like an old Merc.
I always liked the '51's because of the taillights extending beyond the deck lid. It looked like a custom from the factory. I think I am in the minority on this and don't understand why. That looks nice enough that I would build it close to stock. Then it wouldn't look like the rest of the '49-'51 Merc's you see at most shows.
Subtle is the name of the game isn't it. I have seen a lot of "mild" customs over the years that are probably way closer to the real deal than the over the top ones that you normally see. That old heap is just begging for a mild drop and smoothing out.
