My new ride, 51 chevy

    Dave downs, you hit the nail on the head regarding the oil. I thought that was broke but I realized today driving to work it is just pegged about the 30.. and at idle it comes down to around 18 to 20.. so that I do not have to fix.

    i see a sending unit in the temp area with what looks like a metal (br***?) tube coming out of it.. I wonder if the gage is just not working since from the above post it appears it does not matter if it is 6v or 12v, (its mechanical). Am I understanding that correctly, or maybe the sending unit is bad (motor is brand new but some of the parts I think came off the old 216 (like the sending units, oil canister and breather..)

    Both temp and oil are mechanical. If you plan to use the original gauges, you will need the voltage reducer mentioned in the 4th or 5th post for the voltage gauge and the gas gauge.
    If you run aftermarket, it is fairly easy to run new gauges. The oil sending unit location is on the drivers side to the bottom right of the exhaust manifold. The water temp is on the drivers side next to the valve cover on the head.

    dirty rat. I have a set of nos '59 chevy flipper/ knockoffs that I have thought about putting on a set of vintage Mcleans.. its a look I used to see alot round the NW.. have also thought about supremes or vintage tru spokes..
