Thanks. I follow them on eBay and will take another look. Was it made by Dennis Carpenter? He makes most of the rubber for all suppliers. He carries a section of Edsel parts as well. The '59 Ford and Edsel share a lot.
Well just a quick update (will post pics later) been busy on the Edsel got quite a lot of work done, got a break in the weather so took a few days off my regular job Stripped the tar brushed black paint off back to bare metal on the rear quarters cleaned up the previous welding on the rear arches filled over the welds first with fibre fill (a gl*** fibre based high build filler ) then a softer finishing bondo for easy sanding (these panels are so big I could have done with a cement mixer LOL ) it took a day of block sanding by hand to get a near perfect finish I also cut out the rot on top of the rear quarters by the C pillar , welded in new metal filled and primed / made a 2 1/4 incch stainless steel twin exhuast tail pipe unit /rebuilt the carb/fitted new fuel lines and fuel pump /and fitted inner top A arm shafts I wasnt happy with the brush painted satin black as it was peeling in places so decided to rub it off , it was raining so decided as I could`nt do anything else I might as well take advantage of free water and rince so put on water proof gear and armed with varios grades of wet n dry paper set about rubbing the old paint off by hand , so far I have removed 3/4 of the black and the old white paint underneath is in reasonable condition so going to polish it then respray the roof and side stripe black Also had a stroke of luck with the missing chrome trim, after numerous phone calls I managed to find the body shop that originally worked on the car, the guy still had the trim in his stores and was good enough to deliver it to me, I laid it all out and the only thing missing is the fender letters both sides and the hood letters.
Update, few more photos of where i am now , hopefully paint the roof at the weekend then start putting all thr trim back on, got some air ride shocks on the way from Rock Auto + will be doing the Aerostar spring change up front Then we are rolling
Wow what a change! That's gotta be pretty cool to have such a unique car in the U.K. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks KoolKemp, our climate is not much different to yours and doing the work outdoors does`nt help just touched up the paint with rattle cans where i done the repairs and the paint broke through to the metal just took a guess on the shade of white and its not too far out Polished the original white and its coming up ok even where its thin it still looks good with an aged but shinny finish hopefully the roof will be painted at the weekend then I can get the chrome trim back on
I can almost guarantee you the weather here in Nova Scotia is just as miserable as yours but with snow! I'm still not used to all the rain and dampness as I'm from about 1500 Kms inland originally. You've made great progress for working outside this time of year! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
It seems so long ago when I got the Edsel in February but I have grabbed every spare hour to work on it braving all weather conditions but got a sunny dry spell + a 4 day Easter break from work so took advantage of early morning starts until it got too dark to work by that time i was worn out but it all paid off as now i am up and rolling
Nice car but to keep it so, I'd suggest hanging a bad of automotive-dessicant to remove the water vapor inside. A not so rare water leak, likely at the windows, during the rain storms will reek havok with the floor panels, not to speak of the nasty mold odor.
