Well, I drove from Detroit to just north of Chicago and back this past Saturday. I picked up my new deuce roadster project. We pop steel body and rails, most of the hard work already done. Front rails pinched and Bobbed,Frame softly swept up and C notched At the rear. Beautiful turn the work in the floor and trunk area. The guy knew what he was doing, but the project stalled. That’s good for me. My plans are for a traditional build. Most likely mid to late 50s style. 283, multiple carbs, Cowl steering etc. i’m going to separate the body from the frame this weekend and take stock of what I need. Probably get started on it after I get back from Hershey, with a shit load of Parts.
Good on ya. Looks like the seller not only had a vision but skills too, some here can learn from your build approach. Brace (yourself) on your cowl steering plans.
The guy who started the build was very talented, His vision for the finished product was spot on for the car I've been building in my head for many years. I'm now losing sleep working things out, and planning.
Wow...ok I can’t wait to see this running around Livonia!!! Great start can’t wait to see it some time Btw I spy a Chevy pick up and of course the Camaro..you’ll have all the bases covered! Also what ever happened to the Kustom? Is it still in the States? Any updates from the new owner?
The 61 went to Indiana, The guy is keeping it as it was, he loves the car and the history of it. Makes me happy to know it is loved.
Looks good- hard to tell from the photo but the light mounts look wider than normal and with those big headlights you may want to double check for tire clearance at full lock. Could just be the picture angle though....
After having looked at the picture I can see what you mean, I have good clearance though I think it's just the angle of the shot. Use the standard 28 model a headlight bar with a slight V. Gives me pretty good clearance at full turn.
Thanks, I had built another, much more work, shapes, curves etc. After looking at it, I would call it a little too elegant. So I scrapped it and started again. I need to keep in mind function first and some form as an afterthought. At least in some applications. I have followed some of your roadster build, Very nice. I look forward to seeing it in person. Sadly, I have a repop steel body, raised wheel arches and some mods, but nothing near the repairs you have had to do. its nice to see henrys steel brought back to life.
Is there any internal bracing inside the frame above those C notches? Basically you have turned your frame rail into a 2x1, which is not good. Especially since you have all the weight of the back half of the car BEHIND that notch.
Triple walled. added center support prior to finishing off boxing. I wouldn't want to drive it if it weren't.
