I put this up on another thread and was asked for more info, so thought I would start a thread. It was built by Andy, a friend of mine who's built many rods, as his ultamate hot rod. What he wanted was a traditional mid 40's no fuss hot rod. He started with a really great condition totally original 1930 A roadster. It had no dents, no rust, never been welded and was complete, in fact it was an ex museum car which found it's way to the UK several years ago and was kept up together by a cl***ic car enthusiast who loved and cared for it regardless of cost. Andy's girlfriend also has a model A and when the motor gave up on it Andy decided to swap out the running gear from his roadster into the other one and build his ultimate car. He started to collect the bits needed, so got a new french 24 stud flathead, edelbrock heads, offy twin carb inlet and two 94's. A '39 box, axle and closed drive were found along with '36(?) wires and '35 split wishbones. The A ch***is was kicked up at the rear and a new buggy spring was mounted on top of the '39 axle. It has it's original leather seats and door cards, dash and gas tank but has a home made stainless steel colum with a 40 ford steering wheel. The quality of this build is just awsome and drives real nice with no knocks or bags, starts easy and runs very strong. I've seen him do a 16.9 at the drags with it set up as it is now. Although it's a great build there's no frills or fancy stuff, it's just been built to drive. There's some chips in the paint and the rag top is grubby and I think it's better for it. Andy has only sold it because after many years of hot rodding he now finds it a bit limited, so he's taking a couple of years out to race his bikes, maybe he'll stay away, maybe he'll be back, who knows. I wish him good luck. But it does mean I got the chance to buy what I think is a true hot rod, it meant I had to sell all my bikes to raise the cash, but I can build more bikes and the opportunity was just too good to p*** up.
Just about perfect, and it is being used instead of sitting in a museum with no one giving a care about it. A beauty.
Awesome! one of my top favorites. thanks for the pics! is the chasis lowere at all? appears to be stock height or maybe 2 inches or so lower?
Gorgeous! Nothing has been done that can't be undone. Mostly bolt on changes. More people will enjoy it now!
Nutrocker, What a beautiful car! Glad to see it's out in circulation and not gathering dust in a museum. If it was mine I wouldn't change a thing, except the tires, because I'd be wearing them out driving the **** out of it!
If your old enough that car represents near perfection. Sure reminds me of the '29 coupe with the '47 flathead I put together while I was in highschool, 1960-61 BTW. Frank
How about a pic of the front. The original headlites work very well as does the 30 stainless shell. Kinda refreshing from the usual Deuce grille. How much of a drop in the front axle and how much of a kick in the rear frame rails??? I am building a 31 very similar to yours and wouldn't mind some more pics. Was the seat riser modified (lowered), What year car are those pedals from, what kinda shocks are you running and what did you use for the center crossmember??? If the seat riser is original do you have a pic of anyone sitting in the drivers seat??? Interested in proportions here. Love the car and thank you for posting pics of it.
