I haven't seen this car for years. On a visit to a local yard yesterday for a few last minute parts for an 86 pickup, I spotted it. Yep, same one from so many years ago. I made a few calls and decided to go get it today.

This don't look good. Are they open?

We finally got in and gave everything a good once over. It'S GONNA BE A LONG DAY.

We got it jacked up and eventually freed up the brakes.

Had a bit of trouble when we tried to get the left front off the ground. Poor ole girl is getting a bit weak underneath.

We loaded up the three tires that wouldn't take air and all the tools. Headed back to my shop.

Had to put a tube in one of them and discovered where all the stuffing from the seat went.

Got a trailer lined up and the tires are holding air now so we're headed back out for round two.
I'll keep everyone posted on how the rest of the adventure turns out.

After we got the tires to hold air, we went back out for round 2. We didn't need to take quite as much with us this time, and my buddy from earlier in the day had a date with a 63 Impala wagon, so we decided to take my shop truck.

Here is a pic of our drive down the path through the yard.

I was scouting around a bit still looking for one last part for the 86 while Red and her oldest boy put the tires back on.

No one was brave enough to crawl in and fight the wasps or the mice to tow it back to the trailer so we just picked it up and carried it out.

Onc we got it on the trailer and gave it another good look, we headed back to my shop.

I guess the big plan for it right now is to get it unloaded and set it in my showroom till we have time to see if it will still run. More to come....

That's one of the later models of those with the trunk. I had a 55 ragtop in High school that caused me more grief both mechanically and socially than I want to remember. It was always breaking down and some of my cl***mates though it was a toy that they could pull pranks with/on all the time.

she wont seem like your sweetheart for long! hope your sheetmetal welding skills are good. welcome to the METRO world, I'm working on an identicle yellow and white 57 for my bride. got all the outer body rot taken care of and i'm about to tackle the floor pans. look for lots of rot behind the front wheels in the cowl/toe board/rocker intersection area and in front of the rear wheels in the same area. our 57 looked relativly solid from outside, only small rust holes- but upon closer inspection was like swiss cheese underneath. I ended up cutting off the bottom of the fenders to reach the bad areas behind and then welding the outer skin back on when I had the patch work complete. what are your power train/suspension plans? I'm going to use a 2.8 chevy v-6 with automatic to allow us to keep up with traffic and will swap out the rear end and front suspension for something more dependable/roadworthy. good luck and will watch for updates.

  15. Guy here in the Dallas area had one of these with a small block in it back in the 60's.
It was a nasty piece of work....

It got a bit too late last night to unload so we hit it again this morning. A quick trip to the car wash was in order.

The old girl cleaned up pretty good. (except for the rust spots the side rails are hiding)

Then it was time to clean up the debris left on the trailer. Over 12 years of Yuck!

She is resting in my showroom now for a bit while we catch up on a few customer projects. I'll post more as we move along. Still not sure what the plans are but I knew I had to save it!

This one is a 61 so all of the lugnuts are the same. Tiny and easy to loose in the dirt at the yard but the same

Dude, you live less than 30 minutes from my shop. I'd love to see your project.

Still not sure what we're doing with it yet but Red did make a cool find.
